Convert txids before checking request history
In test_orphan_inherit_rejection, these three checks can never detect an erroneous GETDATA: MiniWallet returns txid as a hex string, but assert_never_requested() compares its argument directly against each integer CInv.hash. Thus request.hash != txhash is always true for the calls on lines 286, 292, and 297, so regressions that request the rejected parent or child still pass this new test; convert each txid with int(..., 16) as the earlier calls do.

The backport matches upstream: bitcoin#28199 passes the hex-string txids to assert_never_requested on these same three calls (parent_low_fee_nonsegwit["txid"] and child["txid"]). Upstream should fix this first, and we would then backport it.

hashes to pass integer values parsed from their hexadecimal txid strings,
matching the integer type of CInv.hash.
- Line 140: After each GETDATA_TX_INTERVAL clock advance in the orphan-handling
test, synchronize the peers before calling assert_never_requested so the check
observes any delayed request; apply this ordering at both clock advances.
- Line 85: Update the parent-request helper to collect inventory items across
consecutive parent-only getdata messages, stopping at a message containing a
non-transaction request, and validate the combined requests against txids.
Remove the assertion that expects both requests in one getdata message; retain
the existing wait for the expected parent requests.

Final validation — Phase 1 + Phase 2
The RPC helper adaptations preserve Dash's context handling, and the arrival-timing test omission is explicitly documented and consistent with Dash's undelayed MSG_DSTX requests. Two non-blocking coverage gaps remain in the inherited-rejection test. This was a static review only: the supplied CI snapshot has dependency builds queued and lint running, so it does not establish build or test success.

In `test/functional/p2p_orphan_handling.py`:
- [SUGGESTION] test/functional/p2p_orphan_handling.py:286: Make inherited-rejection request assertions effective
The checks here and at lines 292 and 297 pass hexadecimal-string txids, but assert_never_requested() compares them directly with integer CInv.hash values. These inequalities therefore always succeed, even when the rejected transaction was requested. Convert the expected hashes with int(txid, 16), and scope the peer1 check to requests received after the initial parent relay: relay_transaction(peer1, parent_low_fee["tx"]) already recorded a legitimate MSG_TX request for this parent, so converting line 286 alone would fail on correct behavior. Capture a history boundary after that relay, or exclude its initial MSG_TX request; the peer2 and peer3 checks can compare integer hashes directly.
- [SUGGESTION] test/functional/p2p_orphan_handling.py:296: Synchronize the peer after advancing the request clock
The send_and_ping() above synchronizes before the clock advance, while a non-preferred peer's MSG_TX announcement becomes requestable afterward. bump_mocktime() updates node clocks and schedulers but does not synchronize the P2P SendMessages loop or receipt of GETDATA. Even after correcting the hash comparison, the immediate negative assertion can pass before an erroneous request arrives, and cleanup does not inspect that history again. Synchronize peer3 after advancing time and before checking its request history.

These three calls (string txids, and peer1 checked against its full request history) are identical to upstream bitcoin#28199. Making the assertions effective would mean redesigning the upstream test, which belongs in an upstream fix rather than this backport.

Withdrawn (re-reviewed at 88c5abf1): You're right: upstream bitcoin#28199 contains the same three string-txid assertions and checks peer1's history after legitimately requesting the parent during its initial relay. I withdraw this finding from the backport review rather than require an upstream test redesign here.

Upstream bitcoin#28199 also calls bumpmocktime(TXREQUEST_TIME_SKIP) and then immediately peer3.assert_never_requested(...) with no sync, so the backport matches upstream.

Withdrawn (re-reviewed at 88c5abf1): You're right: I independently compared upstream bitcoin#28199 lines 397–399 with the current Dash lines 295–297 and confirmed the same clock-advance-then-check ordering without another peer synchronization. I withdraw this request from the backport review; it is an inherited test-hardening concern, not a Dash adaptation defect.

nit: 28199: consider unification of setmocktime in test_node.py between upstream / master, or at least move code in the same lines, between generatetodescriptor and get_wallet_rpc.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
This branch doesn't touch test_node.py: upstream's setmocktime/bumpmocktime hunk was left out on purpose because Dash's framework already has bump_mocktime. Dash's existing setmocktime lives on RPCOverloadWrapper, not TestNode. Moving it into TestNode would start setting node.mocktime, which Dash passes as -mocktime when a node restarts, so it would change behaviour for unrelated tests and is better done as a separate refactor.

Re-review — Final validation — Phase 1 + Phase 2
Verified the complete nine-file diff at 88c5abf against the upstream changes and surrounding Dash code; no blocking correctness defects or unresolved prerequisites were identified. One non-blocking suggestion remains concerning stale Dash adaptation notes in the commit messages; the explicitly documented test omission is accepted, and both prior test-hardening findings are withdrawn. This was a static review: no builds or tests were run, and the supplied exact-head CI snapshot still has checks queued or in progress.

<commit:88c5abf198>:1
The Dash-specific annotations no longer match the committed patches. Commit 88c5abf says it changes the test_node.py setmocktime wrapper, but that file is unchanged throughout the review range; its omission section instead explains why the upstream node-level helpers were excluded. The same commit says test_orphan_rejected_parents_exceptions was renamed to test_orphan_rejected_parents, while both the final definition and invocation retain test_orphan_rejected_parents_exceptions. Commit 3cb67f8 also describes writing doc/release-notes-27511.md, but its patch adds doc/release-notes-7862.md. Update these annotations to describe the actual framework omissions, retained method name, and release-note path, preserving the upstream subjects and provenance. Otherwise permanent history will direct readers to adaptations that did not land.

This means that if a parent is an old confirmed transaction (in which notfound is expected), the orphan should still be resolved. - Rejected parents can cause an orphan to be dropped, but it depends on the reason and only based on txid. - Rejected parents can cause an orphan to be rejected too, by both wtxid and txid. - Requests for orphan parents should be de-duplicated with "regular" txrequest. Dash's AddObjectAnnouncement only delays MSG_TX invs (`if (inv.IsMsgTx() && !preferred && m_nodeman == nullptr)`), and orphan parents are fetched as MSG_DSTX, so they are requested with zero delay -- a deliberate Dash choice, documented in net_processing.cpp as matching pre-txrequest behavior. The privacy property being tested does not hold, so the subtest would fail rather than protect anything. - test/functional/p2p_orphan_handling.py: test_orphan_inherit_rejection's witness half (the grandchild/child wtxid assertions and 'retried with an alternate witness' announcement): txid == wtxid in Dash, so there is no alternate witness to retry with. The txid-level half (grandchild inherits the rejection, child never re-requested) is kept. - test/functional/p2p_orphan_handling.py: create_parent_and_child's getwtxid() return value: kept as child['txid'] since the helper is (as upstream) never called. - test/functional/test_framework/test_node.py: TestNode.bumpmocktime(): Dash already has BitcoinTestFramework.bump_mocktime(), which additionally advances self.mocktime and each node's scheduler via mockscheduler. A node-level bumpmocktime would silently desync the framework clock (a later self.bump_mocktime would move node time backwards) and skip the scheduler, so it would be a trap rather than a helper. The adapted test uses self.bump_mocktime(). - test/functional/test_framework/test_node.py: `self.mocktime = None` at the end of TestNode.__init__: Dash already sets self.mocktime from the constructor's mocktime argument and compares it against 0 in __init__ and start(). Landing this line resets it to None after the fact, which makes start() append a literal `-mocktime=None` on every node restart -- it would have broken unrelated tests.

Re-review — Final validation — Phase 1 + Phase 2
Verified the complete range at eb2561f against the upstream backports and relevant Dash networking and test-framework code; no blocking correctness or prerequisite defect was found. Two non-blocking documentation issues remain: stale adaptation notes and an unqualified completeness statement despite an explicitly excluded upstream scenario. Validation was static only; the supplied CI snapshot shows successful completed builds, lint, and standard, nowallet, and SQLite Linux tests, with ASan/TSan tests and the multiprocess build still pending.

<commit:eb2561fb7ed6c5dda3fd78b623e6966ee1d7f88c>:1
The final patches incorporate the requested scenario and release-note renames, but the Dash-added commit descriptions still name their earlier versions. In eb2561f, the notes say the retained scenario was renamed to test_orphan_rejected_parents, while its definition and invocation use test_orphan_rejected_parents_exceptions. They also describe a test_node.py setmocktime-wrapper adaptation, although that file is unchanged throughout the range and the wrapper already exists on RPCOverloadWrapper at the base. In 6fcb084, the notes identify doc/release-notes-27511.md as the destination, but the patch adds doc/release-notes-7862.md. Refresh the Dash-authored notes in both existing commits to describe the shipped names and distinguish existing framework behavior from actual changes; preserve the upstream subjects and provenance.

- [SUGGESTION] test/functional/p2p_orphan_handling.py:299-305: Declared omission: upstream orphan arrival-timing test
The PR's testing summary says the mechanical comparison found every upstream hunk present, but bitcoin#28199's test_arrival_timing_orphan(), assert_no_immediate_response() helper, and run_test() invocation are intentionally absent. The commit explains this exclusion, and Dash's existing production code supports it: orphan parents are announced as MSG_DSTX, while the non-preferred transaction delay applies only to MSG_TX, so the upstream delayed-request scenario does not match Dash's policy. This is not a missing prerequisite or a request to change production behavior or redesign the test. Qualify the PR's completeness statement and identify this intentional non-SegWit coverage exclusion so the summary agrees with the patch and its documented rationale.

No branch change needed. The bitcoin#28199 commit message already lists test_arrival_timing_orphan (and its helper and run_test call) under 'Not applicable to Dash (intentionally omitted)', with the reason: Dash requests orphan parents as MSG_DSTX, and only MSG_TX is delayed. Only the PR description's completeness line needs rewording, and that is PR text, not a change to this branch.

Agreed—no branch change is needed. Rewording the PR summary to say “mechanically compared against upstream, with intentional Dash exclusions documented in the commit messages” would resolve my concern. I checked that the commit documents the arrival-timing exclusion and that the MSG_DSTX orphan-parent path bypasses the non-preferred MSG_TX delay, so I’m satisfied with the omission itself.
The finding stands on this commit until that change is pushed; the push gets a full review.

Test-only, picked as its commit. Without it, #7821's `test_failed_upgrade()` expects RPC error -1 for a 257-byte mnemonic passphrase, which #7842's new precheck rejects with -8 first, so `wallet_upgradetohd.py --legacy-wallet` fails. On develop, #7859 replaced that scenario before #7842 merged. The rest of #7859 is test cleanup and docs and is left out. - #7842 fix(wallet): reject mnemonic passphrases that seed derivation truncates - #7857 fix: mine a pending ProUpServTx before a key change of its masternode - #7846 fix: treat pending owner keys and Platform node IDs as one conflict namespace - #7895 test: cover retroactive provider tx refusal, fix wording - #7909 feat(mining): build the masternode list incrementally during block assembly - #7537 fix: data races and check-then-act races in the CoinJoin server - #7888 fix(consensus): canonical ExtNetInfo encoding and strict netInfo decoding 34 of the 39 picks change exactly the same lines as their develop merges. #7888 and #7782 needed test-only changes (see testing), and three others needed adaptation, described in their commit messages: - **#7893** was merged to develop twice: f99212b with an earlier revision of its commit, then 72a5997 with the final one, so develop now announces sporks twice in the VERACK handler (a develop fix is open separately). Here the PR's final commit 45acdf3 is picked once instead of either merge. In `src/node/sync_manager.cpp`, this branch still sent `GETSPORKS` from the mnsync tick on every network, because #7847, which limited it to test chains, is not included. The request is removed entirely, as on develop. Mainnet spork values are hardcoded in `CSporkManager::GetSporkValue`, so the mainnet request had no effect. - **#7857** and **#7909**: develop folded `CChainstateHelper` into `Chainstate` (d5c1bd7), which is not on this branch, so the new code goes through `ChainHelper().special_tx` / `m_chain_helper.special_tx` instead of `m_special_tx`. The neighbouring develop-only `CSpecialTxProcessor::GetDeterministicMNListHash` is left out. #7888 tightens consensus rules for ExtAddr provider transactions behind V24, so I checked it against testnet. V24 is not active there yet (the tip's CbTx is still version 3), so the chain has no ExtAddr ProTxs the new rules could reject. rc.3's own serializer always writes canonical, sorted purposes, so every ProTx it builds passes the new rules. Mixed rc.3/rc.4 networks could only split on a hand-crafted non-canonical ExtAddr ProTx mined after V24 activates. So testnet miners and masternodes should move to rc.4 before V24 is signalled. Unlabeled develop fixes since rc.3 that were audited and left out: - Worth considering before the final release: #7869 (startup block replay after an unclean shutdown asserts on a quorum commitment, so recovery needs `-reindex-chainstate`; not a v24 regression), #7833 (gate signing intake before quorum retrieval, DoS hardening), #7682 (intermittent `relic_conf.h` parallel-build failure). - Left for 24.1: #7812, #7826, #7844, #7847, #7850, #7868, plus the routine upstream backports (#7780, #7806, #7830, #7855, #7856, #7862, #7863, #7865, #7883, #7884, #7898, #7906), refactors (#7805, #7878, #7880), and CI, docs and test-only changes. One CI-only commit comes last. It takes only the `ci/test` hunks of 6f71fa5 (#7901), which make `ci/test/00_setup_env_native_{multiprocess,tsan}.sh` honor `DEPENDS_ARCH`. Pull requests into `v24.0.x` run develop's workflow files (`pull_request_target`), and since #7901 those check the depends cache on x86_64 runners and pass the aarch64 build arch in `DEPENDS_ARCH`. Without the hunks, `linux64_multiprocess / Build depends` fails on any depends cache miss (`Build runner computes HOST=aarch64-linux-gnu but check-cache used x86_64-pc-linux-gnu`). Without `DEPENDS_ARCH` the scripts still use `uname -m`, so this branch's own push CI is unchanged. No version change is needed. `configure.ac` is already 24.0.0 with `CLIENT_VERSION_IS_RELEASE` false, so the build takes its version string from the `v24.0.0-rc.4` tag. ## How Has This Been Tested? Built and tested at 6c02b2b on macOS arm64 against depends, with `--enable-debug --enable-werror --disable-hardening`. - `make check`: all unit test suites pass, including `test_dash-qt`. - Functional tests, all passing: `feature_evo_shares_activation.py`, `feature_governance_objects.py`, `feature_llmq_signing.py` (plain and `--spork21`), `feature_masternode_shares.py`, `feature_sporks.py`, `interface_rest.py`, `p2p_instantsend.py`, `p2p_quorum_data.py`, `rpc_masternode.py`, `rpc_psbt.py`, `rpc_quorum.py`, `wallet_backup.py`, `wallet_dump.py`, `wallet_encryption.py`, `wallet_labels.py` and `wallet_upgradetohd.py`, each with `--descriptors` and `--legacy-wallet` where it supports them. - Each pick's changed lines were compared with its develop merge (or, for #7893, its PR commit). They are identical except for the #7893, #7857 and #7909 adaptations above, and the #7888 test adaptation below. - A local macOS arm64 debug build (`--enable-debug --enable-werror`) compiled most of the tree and stopped on a single error in `src/test/evo_netinfo_tests.cpp`. #7888's new test used `CNetAddr::V2()`, the serialization-parameter API from bitcoin#25284, which this branch lacks. The pick now writes that entry through an `OverrideStream` with `ADDRV2_FORMAT`, the way `NetInfoEntry::Serialize` does on this branch (see its commit message). - #7782's new unit test reloads the wallet with develop's three-argument `CWallet` constructor. On this branch the constructor still takes the CoinJoin loader and an `ArgsManager`, so the test passes them the way its fixture already does (see the commit message). - With both test fixes, a full local `make` (`dashd`, `dash-qt`, `test_dash`, `test_dash-qt`) completes with no errors. - `feature_pruning.py` is an extended test that CI does not run. #7894 is included because #7792 makes its restart path fail. ## Breaking Changes Carried over from the picked PRs: - #7876: rc.1 to rc.3 nodes that connected an affected block stored a wrong masternode list diff for it. Those nodes need `-reindex`; `-reindex-chainstate` is not enough for nodes that already marked the following block invalid. - #7888: stricter ExtAddr `netInfo` decoding and validation behind V24 (see above). The RFC1918 check now applies even with `-allowprivatenet`. - #7858: provider transactions no longer get InstantSend locks. Software that waits for an islock on a ProTx should wait for a ChainLock or confirmations instead. - #7857: a `ProUpServTx` spending an output of a pending operator key change, asset lock, asset unlock or MNHF signal is rejected from the mempool until that transaction confirms. - #7831: governance object signatures over 96 bytes are rejected, and the governance cache is discarded and re-synced on first start (`doc/release-notes-7831.md`). - #7871: address purposes are limited to `send`, `receive` and `refund`. Wallets with other purpose strings load with warnings, and `listlabels` errors on an unknown purpose (`doc/release-notes-27217.md`). - #7842: creating an HD wallet with a mnemonic passphrase over 248 bytes fails unless `-allow-deprecated-long-mnemonics` is set, and over 256 bytes always fails (`doc/release-notes-7842.md`). - #7792: a node whose evodb is missing a masternode list snapshot now stops at startup and asks for `-reindex`, and `evodb repair` reports it in `repairErrors`. - #7867: `protx info <proTxHash> <blockHash>`, `protx listdiff` and `masternode payments <blockHash>` return an error for blocks outside the active chain. - #7881: `protx shared_combine` on a `ProUpSharedRegTx` is refused unless its inputs are unlocked coins of a single address of the calling wallet, change returns to that address, and the fee is within `-maxtxfee`. - #7836: PSBTs referencing nonexistent previous outputs fail to deserialize (RPC error -22). - #7834: negative Electrum-import rescan indices are rejected. - #7893: on this branch, mainnet nodes no longer send `GETSPORKS` during mnsync (no effect, mainnet spork values are hardcoded). ## Checklist: - [x] I have performed a self-review of my own code - [ ] I have made corresponding changes to the documentation - [ ] I have assigned this pull request to a milestone 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) Top commit has no ACKs.
