Fixes #6805 - hardhat-solidity-docgen was resolving config in place, mutating the shared defaults singleton and the caller's config object. The fix uses structuredClone to avoid mutation.

Walkthrough

The RLP readers now reject trailing bytes after a decoded item. The docgen config hook now assigns a structured clone of the selected configuration. The memoized getter resets its state and rethrows when the getter throws.

Possibly related issues

  • Issue 6515 describes the trailing-bytes behavior. The RLP changes make both readers reject inputs where the decoded item does not consume the full slice.

Explanation

Issue #6805 requires the docgen config hook to avoid mutating the shared defaults object and the caller's userConfig.docgen object. The hook now applies structuredClone before assigning the resolved config, then writes root and sourcesDir on the clone. This satisfies the stated resolution behavior, including support for frozen caller objects.

Explanation

No eligible functions found in the changed files. Skipping docstring coverage check. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 0 functions across 2 files. Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

Issue #6805 covers the hardhat-solidity-docgen config hook. The PR also changes contracts/utils/RLP.sol to reject trailing bytes and changes memoized-getter.ts to retry after getter exceptions. These changes have no demonstrated connection to #6805 or to the docgen config mutation.

Resolution

Remove the unrelated RLP.sol and memoized-getter.ts changes from this PR, or move them to separate pull requests with their own directly linked coding requirements.

Preserve function-valued pages configurations.

UserConfig.pages accepts a PageAssigner function. structuredClone throws DataCloneError when userConfig.docgen.pages is a function, so valid Hardhat configurations fail during resolution. Copy only the top-level configuration fields that this hook mutates.
