Jira ticket

TUT-D04 – Publish user guidance, contributor guidance and project handover

Target branch

main

What I changed

Created the documentation structure for the First-Time OnTrack Tutorial. This includes:

  • A student guide explaining how to start, skip, finish and replay the tutorial
  • Troubleshooting guidance for unavailable units, missing tutorial targets and progress-saving failures
  • A contributor guide explaining the planned architecture, step registry, stable targets, version rules and update process
  • An evidence index for related tickets, branches, pull requests and test results
  • An interim project handover covering project health, risks, limitations and next steps
  • A README linking all the tutorial documentation

The documents are currently marked as drafts because parts of the tutorial implementation, testing, security review and pilot work are unfinished.

How I tested it

This is a documentation-only change. I confirmed that all documentation files exist, checked the links between the documents and reviewed the content against the TUT-D04 checklist.

I also used git status to confirm that all changes were committed and that the working tree was clean.

No application testing was completed as part of this documentation pull request.

Evidence

Documentation branch:

https://github.com/ontrack-features-t2-2026/github-guide/tree/docs/student-onboarding-user-and-contributor-guide

The branch contains:

  • docs/student-onboarding/README.md
  • docs/student-onboarding/student-guide.md
  • docs/student-onboarding/troubleshooting.md
  • docs/student-onboarding/contributor-guide.md
  • docs/student-onboarding/evidence-index.md
  • docs/student-onboarding/handover.md

Final implementation links, screenshots, test results, walkthrough evidence and the second-contributor review will be added when they become available.

Security and privacy

This change only adds written documentation. It does not change authentication, permissions, notifications, application code or the handling of student data.

No passwords, API keys, tokens, real student information, marks, feedback or assessment data are included. No screenshots or recordings containing student information have been added.

Checklist

  • I selected the correct target branch.
  • This pull request covers one ticket or closely related task.
  • I tested my changes.
  • I did not include passwords, API keys, tokens, or real student data.
  • I updated documentation where needed.
  • I am ready for final review.

The TUT-D04 current-state documentation package is ready for review. The evidence index and final handover clearly record the unfinished implementation, testing, pilot, walkthrough and second-contributor dependencies. Required documentation validation has passed.

Documentation Completeness:Verified that all required documentation files for TUT-D04 are created under docs/student-onboarding/, including the README.md, student-guide.md, troubleshooting.md, contributor-guide.md, evidence-index.md, and handover.md.
Current-State Accuracy: Confirmed that documents correctly capture current project health ("Amber") and explicitly mark pending implementation dependencies (TUT-W01–TUT-W04) as drafts/pending rather than prematurely marking features as complete.
Link & Structure Integrity: Confirmed clean file organization, markdown hierarchy, and valid relative navigation links across all tutorial documents.
Security & Privacy Boundary: Verified that no sensitive student records, marks, feedback, API tokens, or real user identifiers are included.
