feat(integrations): opt-in alias model identifiers for Hermes and Command Code - #7863
Implements the owner-approved follow-up contract in #7703. Closes#7703.
Adds opt-in modelIdMode: routed | alias for Hermes and Command Code only. Default remains routed; other exporters are unchanged.
Stores naming intent on the integration ownership record. Omitted Apply preserves the stored mode; this does not follow preferModelAliasIds.
Emits a provider-qualified alias only when passive routing proves the same concrete provider/model. Unsafe, missing, colliding or unprovable aliases and combo/native rows retain their existing routed selector.
Alias mutations converge owned catalogs; refresh replaces renamed/removed keys without weakening foreign-edit protection. Named Hermes profiles retain explicit Apply.
Adds --model-id-mode to managed Apply/preview and ocx export --client; explicit export mode uses the retained passive roster and fails closed when unavailable, without discovery or configuration writes.
Handles identical-byte mode changes, preview fingerprints (p3), Undo, invalid stored mode fallback, and concurrent different-mode requests (busy rather than incorrectly coalesced).
Current head: 8075c0a3d160ae014df08fb59bef5029c7f1943e. CodeRabbit follow-up: all four inline findings and the outside-diff stale-plan finding addressed. On this delta, six related suites pass 345/0; typecheck, structure, privacy, surface and ratchet pass. Full clients 2308/54/0 below is historical on the initial head, not rerun on this delta.
Initial published head: 8da538854d014412c2c4fb9f3555787f79d2970b, rebased cleanly onto dev e1976daf. Bun tests used isolated HOME/OPENCODEX_HOME/CODEX_HOME in scratch space, with no production inference.
Validation on initial published head 8da538854:
bun test tests/clients/integrations-writer.test.ts tests/clients/integrations-state.test.ts tests/clients/mutation-plan.test.ts tests/server/management-integration-routes.test.ts tests/server/management-client-config-route.test.ts tests/server/alias-management-api.test.ts tests/clients/hermes-profile-routes.test.ts tests/cli/cli-export-command.test.ts tests/cli/cli-integration-droid.test.ts: 416 pass, 0 fail (9 files).
bun test tests/clients: 2308 pass / 54 skip / 0 fail (150 files), run on the exact published head.
bun run typecheck: exit 0.
bun run structure:check: passed.
bun run privacy:scan: passed.
bun run skill:surface:check: all 9 generated files current.
bun scripts/file-size-ratchet.ts: passed.
git diff --check: passed.
Earlier working-tree validation before the final concurrency fix/rebase: all clients 2288 pass / 44 skip / 0 fail; CLI focused 266/0. These are historical results, not an exact-head full-directory claim. A timing-sensitive link-relay test failed once, passed alone and on a full-directory rerun; no unrelated workaround was added.
Regression evidence: pre-fix negative controls reproduced mode-only preview/baseline and concurrent-mode bugs; corrected tests pass. Final review used GPT 6 Luna with reasoning_effort=max; its confirmed Undo test gap was corrected to assert identical bytes through metadata-only Apply and Undo.
Full-repository suite and hosted CI have not been run on this head. Scoped-validation exception: focused integration/export regressions and the gates above were used on this VPS; no full-suite success is claimed. Fork workflows require maintainer approval.
Review readiness checklist
Required local validation passed; commands, results, and any full-suite exception are documented.
I pushed my PR to a recent dev commit (at most 10 behind; a maintainer may still ask for the exact tip before merge).
I resolved all correct Codex and CodeRabbit findings.
My PR is ready for review.
Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Hermes and Command Code exports now support routed and alias model selectors through the CLI and management API. routed remains the default, and the selected mode is retained for future updates.
Alias selectors are used only when routing confirms they identify the same model; ambiguous or conflicting aliases fall back to routed selectors.
Config previews and exports can use the retained model roster, with an error reported when it is unavailable.
Documentation
Updated CLI, API, and integration references to describe selector modes and their behavior.
Hermes and Command Code now support routed or qualified-alias model selectors in exports and managed integrations. The selected mode is validated, can be saved with integration ownership records, and is included in mutation planning. Alias selectors are used only when routing confirms model identity.
Export builders accept routed or alias. Alias keys require a qualified alias, and collisions fall back to routed selectors. The resolver checks that routing identifies the same provider and model.
Integration state resolves the effective mode for Hermes and Command Code. Ownership records can save it. Mutation fingerprints include it, and planning detects mode changes and conflicts with external file edits. Tests cover persistence, refresh, restore, disable, and concurrent writes.
CLI and management API support src/cli/*, src/server/management/integration-routes.ts, src/server/management/model-routes.ts, tests/cli/cli-export-command.test.ts, tests/cli/cli-integration-droid.test.ts, tests/server/management-integration-routes.test.ts, tests/server/management-client-config-route.test.ts, tests/server/alias-management-api.test.ts, docs-site/src/content/docs/reference/cli/agents.md, docs-site/src/content/docs/reference/management-api.md, structure/clients/integrations.md
The CLI and API validate mode values and reject unsupported clients or disable requests that include a mode. Explicit config exports use a retained roster and return 503 when none is available. Tests cover request validation, mode responses, and mutation behavior. The integration reference also revises its Cursor documentation.

Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
Issue #7703 is open and directly linked. The PR adds the opt-in routed and alias modes for Hermes and Command Code. src/clients/config-export/model-id-mode.ts keeps routed as the default and falls back on alias collisions. src/server/index/qualified-alias.ts emits an alias only after passive routing proves the provider and model match. Management routes, integration state, ownership records, and CLI handling persist and validate the mode for the supported clients. The export and management tests cover alias selection, defaults, collisions, retained modes, previews, refresh, Undo, unsupported clients, and retained-roster failures. These changes satisfy the issue's requested per-integration alias-aware export without requiring the issue's optional raw shape.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
Most changed files support issue #7703, including implementation, API and CLI documentation, and regression tests. However, the PR also rewrites the Cursor section in structure/clients/integrations.md to document installed-bundle reads, install-root discovery, platform and manifest limits, and caching. That documentation change has no demonstrated connection to Hermes or Command Code model-ID export aliases.
Resolution
Remove the unrelated Cursor documentation rewrite from this PR, or move it to a separate PR. Keep the selector-mode documentation in structure/clients/integrations.md because that part supports issue #7703.

Pass the requested modelIdMode into the stale-plan rebuild.
stalePlanGuard rebuilds the preview input when the roster identity changes. That call at Line 497 passes droidReasoningDefaults but not modelIdMode. The caller at Lines 1140-1148 also does not forward the mode to stalePlanGuard.
Without the mode, observeIntegration resolves the saved or default mode. The integration_preview_stale response then carries a plan for a different selector form than the one the operator requested. Its fingerprint binds the effective mode (p3). Confirming that plan with modelIdMode: "alias" produces a fingerprint mismatch again.
The mutation itself is unaffected. freezeIntegrationInput keeps the requested mode. Only the returned stale plan is wrong.
Add a modelIdMode parameter to stalePlanGuard. Pass it at Line 497 and at the call at Lines 1140-1148.
Also add modelIdMode?: ModelIdMode as the last parameter of stalePlanGuard, and pass modelIdMode as the last argument in the call at Lines 1140-1148.

The official implementation covers the opt-in alias export mode for Hermes and Command Code cleanly, including commit-time alias validation and full contract test coverage. Thanks!
Addressed all four inline findings and the outside-diff stalePlanGuard finding in 8075c0a3. The requested modelIdMode now survives both guard capture and replacement-plan rebuilding. A real Command Code route regression replaces the roster while acquiring the lock, receives a stale replacement plan, then successfully confirms it with alias mode. Reverting the mode propagation makes the second confirmation fail (409); reverting Fast handling loses the base alias. Both negative controls reproduced the reported defects.
Final delta: 345 pass / 0 fail across six related exporter/writer/API/CLI files; typecheck, structure, privacy, generated-surface and file-size gates pass. Earlier 2308/54/0 full clients run belongs to 8da538854, not this new head. GPT 6 Luna was called with reasoning_effort=max for the delta review; its linear-time recommendation was applied. Full-repository CI remains unverified.

Correction to my follow-up above: this PR had already been closed as superseded by #7867 before I published the local review fixes. Commit 8075c0a is preserved on my fork only; it is not an upstream PR head or a replacement for the accepted native implementation. No request to reopen this PR. I am checking the native implementation for any remaining applicable regressions rather than rebasing a duplicate feature.
