fix(responses): frame retained requests before portable compaction checkpoints - #7822
After default routed compaction, Codex replays the completed request A as an ordinary user message followed by the proxy-minted ocx1:/ocx2: checkpoint. The active authorized task B survives only inside the summary. OpenCodex frames requests retained before a checkpoint as history, but it recognized only plaintext SUMMARY_PREFIX checkpoints, and it runs before the portable item is decoded (passthrough.ts frames at :336 and decodes at :423; the parser frames at :230 and decodes at :339). The model therefore saw A as a live imperative directly before the summary, which matches the reported switch from B back to A.
A readable portable checkpoint item (decodable, non-empty summary) now counts as the checkpoint for this framing. Retained requests in front of it get the existing historical wrapper, so the next request reads user([historical] A), user(SUMMARY_PREFIX + summary). The decoders keep adding CHECKPOINT_CONTINUATION_NOTE, so it still appears once. Canonical replay state, item identities, replay-prefix lengths, summarizer turns, opaque native blobs, later user input, and native OpenAI passthrough are unchanged. Neither the framing nor the note grants authority.
#7749 is unaffected: its prefix preservation applies only to the resolved anthropic adapter, and a post-checkpoint ordinary turn already differs from a summary request at the system block, so framing adds no new cache-prefix break.
Refs #7816. This fixes the OpenCodex-owned replay framing defect; live acceptance (Claude continuing B after a real compaction round trip) is not established here, so the issue stays open until it is.
Verification
tests/responses/compaction-portable-history.test.ts (new): default compaction JSON and SSE trigger round trips, the reporter's A + checkpoint replay, ocx1/ocx2 and compaction-family aliases, latest-checkpoint selection, later pause/cancel/replacement staying after the checkpoint, exclusions, and native passthrough isolation. Before the runtime change: 1 pass / 9 fail. After: pass.
Focused set on the PR head (OCX_TEST_NO_QUEUE=1, Bun 1.4.4): compaction-portable-history, compaction-history-framing, compaction-continuation-note, compaction-continuation-wire, external-task-input-repair, responses-anthropic-compaction-prefix, responses-compaction, history-ocx-compaction-recovery, test-layout, test-layout-tooling, file-size-ratchet: 190 pass / 1 fail. The one failure (history-ocx-compaction-recovery "backs up and atomically repairs one database-selected rollout", EICACLS from icacls) reproduces identically on clean dev2b5148b on this Windows host and is unrelated.
bun run typecheck, bun run structure:check, bun run privacy:scan: pass. docs-site build passed on the pre-merge commit.
Not run locally: full bun run test and test:changed (shared host under critical load); left to CI.

New Features
When replaying a readable checkpoint, earlier retained text requests are now labeled as historical context, while input provided after the checkpoint remains current.
Checkpoint or tool text does not grant authorization; pending permission requirements still apply.
Documentation
Clarified how checkpoint replay frames historical context and the limits of that framing.
Recognize readable ocx1/ocx2 checkpoints before prompt lowering so retained
requests receive the same historical framing as plaintext checkpoints.
Keep canonical replay and the existing authorization note unchanged.
Add offline default compaction JSON/SSE round trips and replay contracts for
external handovers, later user intent, and native passthrough isolation.
Readable portable checkpoints now identify history-framing boundaries alongside plaintext checkpoints. Earlier retained requests are framed as historical context. Portable checkpoints keep their existing continuation-note placement.

Summary
Checkpoint detection and framing src/responses/compaction-history-framing.ts, structure/transports/responses.md, docs-site/src/content/docs/reference/proxy-formats.md
Checkpoint detection now accepts plaintext summaries and recognized compaction items whose encoded content decodes to a nonblank summary. When framing changes the input, the logic adds continuation instructions only for plaintext checkpoints. The transport notes and reference documentation describe the framing behavior and its limits.
Tests cover streaming and non-streaming replay, checkpoint types and encodings, latest-checkpoint selection, framing boundaries, and provider passthrough. Existing retained-checkpoint expectations now verify historical-request markers. Test-layout mappings include the new replay test.
Issue 7816 — The tests cover retained requests and later pause, cancel, or replacement input, which relates to the reported task-resumption behavior. The offline tests do not establish whether the issue is fully fixed.

Explanation
The title "fix(responses): frame retained requests before portable compaction checkpoints" matches the main change. The changeset adds history framing for readable ocx1/ocx2 portable checkpoints in frameCompactionHistory, labels earlier text-only retained user requests as historical context, and adds tests and docs for this behavior. The title is concise, specific, and follows a conventional-commit style. It does not cover every detail, such as the test fixture registration or the docs, which is expected.

Independent review round 1 on this exact head: PASS, 0 blocking findings (both consumers covered, single continuation note, canonical replay and native passthrough unchanged, summarizer turns and opaque blobs excluded, no new fix(anthropic): preserve cache prefixes during routed compaction (#7307) #7749 tool/system hash change). This fixes the OpenCodex-owned replay framing defect behind #7816. The issue stays open until a live default-compaction A/B next-action comparison confirms Claude continues the active task.
