Summary

Refs #7500

Before this change, when every Antigravity account's discovered model list omitted the requested model, account selection fell back to the full candidate list. The request then went to an account Google had already shown cannot serve it, and the user saw an upstream 404 ("Requested entity was not found"). Now Antigravity requests reach only accounts that may serve the model, and the proxy refuses locally when none can.

  • Selection (src/oauth/generic-account-failover.ts): preferKiroModelSupport no longer falls back to accounts whose fresh roster omits the model, so it can return an empty list for Antigravity. Proactive preference, 429 rotation, hasEligibleGenericOAuthFailoverTarget and rotateAntigravityAccountOnAuthRefusal therefore never move a request to such an account. Kiro listings remain a preference only.
  • Dispatch (src/server/responses/request-transport.ts): a new routeAntigravityModel verdict runs before credential resolution. If the planned account's roster omits the model, the request moves to a usable sibling that may serve it (proactive failover on), or is refused with HTTP 403 permission_denied before any upstream send. The shared admission step commitResolvedOAuthSelection also refuses an omitting candidate, so resolution fallbacks, 401 recovery and failover rebinds after a concurrent selection change abandon the send instead of reaching that account.
  • Docs: the Antigravity section of docs-site/.../guides/providers.md now quotes both refusal messages verbatim and states the rule. structure/providers-and-adapters.md describes the new contract.

Example: with accounts A (active, roster lists only Claude 4.6) and B (lists Claude 5.5), a claude-opus-5-5 request used to go to A, and fail upstream with 404, whenever failover was off or B was cooled. When every account omitted the model, it went to the full candidate list anyway. Now it goes to B when oauthAccountFailover.enabled is on. Otherwise the proxy answers locally with 403: The selected Google Antigravity account does not list the model "claude-opus-5-5" in its model discovery. Select an account that lists it, or enable oauthAccountFailover so OpenCodex can choose one.

The paid-versus-trial display part of #7500 is not addressed here. The maintainer comment on the issue notes there is no reliable upstream signal for it yet, so this PR uses Refs, not Closes.

Decisions

  • Accounts with no roster yet are routable; only a proven omission excludes an account. Rosters live in memory, are recorded only for the account that is active during discovery, and expire after six hours. Treating "unknown" as "denied" would refuse every request after a restart. Ranking is: listing account → unknown account → never an omitting account. Within each tier, accounts out of cooldown win over cooled ones.
  • Moving off the selected account requires proactive preference (oauthAccountFailover.enabled). This matches the repository's existing rule for Kiro's known-refusal exclusion (refusalAwareInitialKiroAccount) and the commit guard in commitResolvedOAuthSelection, which reverts proactive moves when the flag is off. With the flag off, an omitting selected account produces the "selected account" refusal; the request is never silently moved.
  • Three refusal messages: "selected account does not list … enable oauthAccountFailover" when another usable account may serve the model but failover is off; "… no account that may serve it could be used … Retry" when failover is on but the chosen replacement could not be resolved; and "no usable account lists" when every non-paused, non-reauth account's roster omits it. Both are 403 permission_error, so the existing classifier yields permission_denied. The wording avoids terms that would reclassify the error as auth, quota or subscription.
  • retainModels does not override a roster omission. It keeps catalog rows visible; routing follows the account's own discovery. An exemption would also have required threading config into the 401-rotation call sites in adapter-dispatch.ts, which sits at 1,999 of the 2,000-line ratchet threshold, so the exemption could not be applied consistently.
  • Saved selections of retired models (for example the retired Flash ids) follow the same rule. Current discovery no longer lists them, and they already returned 404 upstream.

Security summary

This changes OAuth account selection for google-antigravity only. No credential, token or OAuth flow code changes, nothing new is logged, and no new data is persisted. The refusal messages contain only the requested model id. They contain no account id, email, project id or token. The change narrows the set of accounts a request can reach: it adds exclusions and a local refusal and never makes an excluded, paused or reauth-flagged account selectable. A reroute uses the existing account-scoped resolver with requireUsableAccount and the existing guarded selection commit, so the sibling's bearer stays paired with its own project id.

Verification

Local, macOS arm64, Bun 1.4.3 test runner (OCX_TEST_RUNNER_BUN), isolated HOME/CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR/OPENCODEX_HOME (mktemp). Typecheck and test:changed ran under the host's shared heavy-test lock.

  • Focused (head 8113db0d1): bun test tests/adapters/google/antigravity-account-roster.test.ts tests/server/server-antigravity-model-roster-routing.test.ts: 19 pass / 0 fail. Red→green verified: against the original src/, every new behavior case and the updated fallback assertion fail; the "keep" cases pass both ways, as intended. The recovery-rebind case fails with only the commit-level check removed.
  • Neighbors: tests/oauth/oauth-account-quota-rank.test.ts, tests/server/server-generic-oauth-affinity.test.ts, tests/oauth/generic-oauth-failover.test.ts, tests/oauth/generic-session-affinity.test.ts, tests/server/server-google-antigravity-oauth-401-replay.test.ts, tests/server/server-google-antigravity-oauth-429-budget.test.ts: 189 pass / 0 fail.
  • bun run test:changed at 8113db0d1 (merge base 516aaaaf8 = current origin/dev): 33295 pass / 40 skip / 0 fail, 1488 files, exit 0.
  • bun run typecheck at 8113db0d1: exit 0.
  • bun run privacy:scan at 8113db0d1: passed.
  • bun run structure:check at 8113db0d1: passed.
  • tests/test-layout.test.ts + tests/test-layout-tooling.test.ts: 27 pass (new file registered in scripts/test-layout/layout.json and tests/fixtures/test-layout-expected.json).
  • CI test 2/4 on 8113db0d1 failed only on file-size ratchet: repository: merged with dev, scripts/test-layout/layout.json reached exactly 2000 lines. 1745fae7a (maintainer) moves the new test's registration into scripts/test-layout/layout-agent-assertion.json. On 1745fae7a merged with origin/dev 880127dbd, the ratchet, layout, roster-routing and six neighbor files run 492 pass / 1 skip / 0 fail. Those six files are claude-native-passthrough, codex-routing, grok-47-fast-model-wire, responses-self-named-namespace-scrub, loopback-listener-integration and upstream-failure-diagnostics. They failed once in a loaded full test:changed run of the merged tree, and the same files pass on the PR head, on clean dev, and on the merge.
  • Windows-sensitive: no. No changed path matches the ci.yml windows filter, and no added src//tests/ line contains a marker from scripts/ci/windows-sensitive-diff.sh (count 0), so no lane=all dispatch is required.
  • NOT RUN: full bun run test (test:changed already selected 1488 files because request-transport.ts is widely imported; the host lock is shared across several lanes). No GUI changes, so no screenshot or lint:gui/build:gui.

Checklist

  • Scope stays focused and avoids unrelated cleanup.
  • Docs or release notes were updated when needed.
  • Security-sensitive changes were reviewed for secrets, auth, and unsafe defaults.

Review responses

  • Codex P2 "Recheck the roster on every OAuth rebind": accepted and fixed in c3fc683b7, which moves the check into commitResolvedOAuthSelection and adds a regression test; thread resolved.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Antigravity requests now use account model listings to select an eligible account. Accounts with a current listing that omits the requested model are excluded; accounts with unknown listings remain eligible.
    • When an account cannot serve a model, eligible accounts may be tried instead. If none can serve it, the request is refused locally with a 403 error explaining the situation.
    • Model listings are retained for six hours. Eligibility checks also apply during rate-limit and authentication failover.
  • Documentation
    • Updated provider guidance to explain Antigravity model-based account routing and failover.
  • CodeRabbit (Minor) "Fix the refusal message when failover is enabled and a sibling was chosen": accepted and fixed in 8113db0d1 with a distinct message for the reroute verdict, plus docs and unit assertions; thread resolved.

An Antigravity account whose fresh discovered roster omits the requested
model is no longer a fallback candidate. Preference, 429 rotation and
auth-refusal rotation answer no account instead of reusing it, and the
transport replaces an omitting planned account with a usable listing or
not-yet-discovered sibling when proactive preference is enabled, or
refuses locally with 403 permission_denied before any upstream send.

📝 Walkthrough

Antigravity model rosters now determine whether accounts can serve a requested model. Routing can select an eligible sibling or refuse the request locally with HTTP 403. OAuth admission checks roster eligibility before committing an account, including during recovery and failover.

Changes: Antigravity model-roster routing

Layer / File(s) Summary
Roster-based eligibility and routing
src/oauth/generic-account-failover.ts, tests/adapters/google/antigravity-account-roster.test.ts
Fresh rosters that omit the requested model exclude Antigravity accounts. Unknown rosters remain eligible. When proactive failover applies, routing can select an unpaused sibling that is not awaiting reauthentication. Target checks and auth-refusal rotation also filter candidates by model evidence.

Responses transport routes to an eligible account or returns a local 403 refusal. It checks roster eligibility before committing a selection, including after initial resolution and during recovery. Tests cover routing, refusals, and a 401 recovery case. Documentation describes six-hour roster retention and the routing rules.

The roster check ran only on the initial admission, so a 401 recovery or
failover rebind that followed a concurrent selection change could still
send to an account whose roster omits the model. commitResolvedOAuthSelection
now refuses such a candidate, and the initial path answers with the explicit
403 before committing.

Comment thread src/oauth/generic-account-failover.ts Resolved
…nusable

With failover on, an omitting account that still resolved means the chosen
sibling could not be used. The refusal no longer advises enabling a setting
that is already on; it says the replacement could not be used and to retry.
