… GC) AnthropicStream and AnthropicAsyncStream ended the LLM span only on stream exhaustion (_complete_instrumentation), so leaving a with-block early, using the messages.stream() helper and breaking out, or calling close() left the span open forever - the model call, its tokens and cost silently missing from the trace. Add close()/__exit__ (sync) and close()/__aexit__ (async, awaiting the wrapped coroutine close) that run the idempotent _ensure_cleanup() first, plus a best-effort __del__ fallback. WrappedMessageStreamManager now keeps the stream proxy it creates and runs cleanup in __exit__/__aexit__ before delegating to the SDK manager. 9 mock-based regression tests (no network): close/exit/del end the span, idempotent close, no double-end after full consumption, manager exits. Wrapped message-stream managers retain the proxies and clean them up before delegating context exit. Regression tests cover stream closure, context exit, garbage collection, and manager delegation. ChangesAnthropic stream cleanup
Priority: ➖ Normal Estimated code review effort: 3 (Moderate) | ~20 minutes Change: Bug fix · Severity of issue fixed: Medium Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to Anthropic streams now finish their spans on early exit, including exceptional context exits. No remaining issue in the supplied evidence prevents merging after normal checks. Security Architecture ReviewSecurity architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to Early-exit cleanup preserves the wrapped stream’s responsibility for releasing resources. The main security consideration is that exceptional exits now record application error text, which can contain sensitive data even when prompt and response capture is disabled. Actual exposure depends on application exceptions and telemetry sanitization. Retained concerns

_ensure_cleanup now accepts the in-flight exception; on exceptional __exit__/__aexit__ the exception is recorded on the span, the exception counter is bumped, and the span ends with ERROR status instead of OK. Normal exits keep the existing OK path. All four exit points (both stream proxies, both message-stream managers) pass exc_val through.

@rupak-eng from my perspective this can be merged: the suite passes at 7f99923, and 12 tests fail with the old streaming.py.
non-blocking: a sync stream raising inside with now counts the exception twice, in __next__ and __exit__. Main counts it once. #4644 sets _instrumentation_completed in __next__ for #4643, which also fixes this.
