Description

@jgrim

As a user i want to add tags like: Germany, Gaming.....

As a moderator or admin i want to disable it on the community / instance.

As a instance admin i want to be able to set a limit on the amount of tags AND amount of characters in a tag.

The tag text should be blocked by the slur filter.
A tag should be "purgable" as an admin or moderator ( specific in his moderated community ) that does NOT remove it from the post but adds it to a blacklist ( to the slur filter )

There is an open proposal to add tags to lemmy but it is stale. It could help with defining requirements.
    Dropping a link for reference.

Being mindful of how this federates out into the rest of the fediverse would be important otherwise sublinks would be known for spamming the heck out of the fediverse

Here's what I would like to see in terms of tags.

    As a user:

    • Subscribing to posts with certain tags or blacklisting posts with certain tags per community. This would allow you to manage how you want to experience/interact with communities by deciding what types of posts show up in your feed.

    • Subscribing to tags would go really well with the community collections because if for example there are a few communities about the topics that have both memes and news then the users would be able to split their feed into news focused one and meme focused one. Community collections #279

    As a moderator:

    • Personally I couldn't care less about global tags. I just want to be able to create community specific tags for users to categorise their posts by the type of content to make the filtering of content easier. In terms of filtering of tags I'd want to see something that would allow for advanced search like here: Advanced Search and Tag Filtering LemmyNet/lemmy#3788

    • I also want to be able to manipulate those tags in case user used them incorrectly and fix their mistake.

    • Of course I wouldn't mind a second type of tags that are global as long the community specific ones aren't overshadowed.

This is just my wet dream about tags. This is my perspective on the topic as someone who sees communities as closed spaces to discuss specific topics and share links related to them unlike microblogging platforms where the tags/hashtags are required for people to discover specific topics/posts. And again I don't mind the global tags as long they're integrated well and don't take away from what communities are good at. Though I don't use microblogging sites because I prefer community based platforms so I may be missing some needs of people that use those platforms.

@M4rtineski there will be only global Tags ( as this is the whole thing, to be globally indexable )

Of course we can do that it can be selectable to be in one community.

In the terms of moderation, community and instances can blacklist tags ( + regex ) [federated posts that still comes with blacklisted tags will be simply removed by the system]

And the community tags is a different thing you pointed out.

I tinkered a bit with mastodon today to test out how this new lemmy update works out and I can understand better why global tags are important and I take back my statement about not caring about them. As long as a mod I can make the user have pick one of the mandatory tags before posting I'd be happy even if the mandatory tags wouldn't make sense globally. But people probably won't care about some tags not making sense like I thought before. After playing with mastodon I can see how little sense my first comment does. lol
