feat(obsidian-vault): opt-in agent vault — capture skill + state mirror + Opus-judged nightly dream - #1082
Conversation
…or + Opus-judged nightly dream
Three components, all gated behind a single opt-in env var
SUTANDO_OBSIDIAN_MIRROR for the background pieces. The voice-capture tool
is always available — it only fires when the user explicitly says
"save this as a note" / "todo: ..." / etc.
- skills/obsidian-vault/tools.ts — two voice-inline tools:
* add_to_vault(kind, body, title?) — instant capture into Sutando/Notes,
Sutando/Tasks.md (appended checkbox), or Sutando/Thoughts/YYYY-MM-DD.md
(appended timestamped block). Filesystem-direct; no Obsidian plugin
required. Vault + .obsidian/ marker auto-created on first call at
$SUTANDO_WORKSPACE/obsidian-vault.
* run_dream — fire-and-forget on-demand dream pass; passes --force so
explicit user invocations bypass the opt-in gate.
- src/obsidian-mirror.py — one-way watchdog mirror of agent state into
Sutando/Agent/:
* tasks/task-*.txt -> Agent/Tasks/<id>.md (status: pending)
* results/task-*.txt -> updates the same file (status: completed +
## Result section appended)
* notes/*.md -> Agent/Notes/<name>.md (verbatim)
* pending-questions.md -> Agent/Asks.md (verbatim)
Opt-in via SUTANDO_OBSIDIAN_MIRROR=1; exits cleanly when unset.
- skills/obsidian-vault/scripts/dream.py — Opus-4.7-judged content linker
(configurable via SUTANDO_DREAM_MODEL). Pre-filters pairs by shared
proper-noun tokens (>=6 chars), then asks the model whether each pair
has inline references (verbatim quotes) and/or topical similarity.
Edits:
* Inline citations: appends "(cf. [[stem]])" at the END of the
paragraph containing the referenced quote (paragraph-end is
unambiguous; sentence-end was tripping on periods inside code spans
like `langfuse.*`).
* Footer: managed block between <!-- sutando-dream:start --> /
<!-- ...:end --> sentinels with three tiers (## Strongly Related /
## Related / ## See also). User edits above the marker are preserved.
Idempotent re-runs. Same opt-in gate via SUTANDO_OBSIDIAN_MIRROR; the
--force flag bypasses it for explicit invocations.
- src/startup.sh — launches obsidian-mirror.py only when
SUTANDO_OBSIDIAN_MIRROR=1 is set; otherwise prints
"⏸ obsidian mirror (opt-in — set SUTANDO_OBSIDIAN_MIRROR=1 to enable)".
- skills/schedule-crons/crons.example.json — adds the nightly 03:37
obsidian-dream cron entry as a template (no-op when opt-in unset).
Replaces an earlier regex-based relink approach that was vetoed for
matching on proper-noun tokens without verifying actual content
references — see memory feedback-obsidian-relink-no-regex for the
reasoning preserved across sessions.

…ot CLI Owner feedback (Slack 2026-05-24): "i dont like the poller script. its just a random running process that 90% of people might not use." - src/obsidian-mirror.py: removed watchdog dependency. Single sweep, then exit. Adds `--since <30m|1h|6h|1d>` for cheap incremental sweeps when scheduled frequently. `--force` still bypasses the SUTANDO_OBSIDIAN_MIRROR opt-in gate for explicit user runs. - src/startup.sh: dropped the obsidian-mirror launch block — there's no long-running process to start anymore. Doc-comment points users at crons.json scheduling instead. - skills/obsidian-vault/scripts/dream.py: pre-sweep the mirror with `--force` before judging, so the nightly cron only needs one entry (sweep + judge in one go). - skills/obsidian-vault/SKILL.md: rewrote the opt-in section to reflect the new one-shot model + schedule-it-yourself story. Net: no new background processes, no fswatch dependency, no auto-start. Users who want continuous sync schedule it; users who don't pay zero cost. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.7 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
Per owner feedback (Slack 2026-05-24): the comment doesn't belong in startup.sh now that the mirror isn't a background service. The opt-in story lives in skills/obsidian-vault/SKILL.md where someone looking at the skill will actually find it. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.7 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>

Solid, well-documented skill, and I like that the whole thing is opt-in (SUTANDO_OBSIDIAN_MIRROR) so it has zero blast radius on anyone who does not enable it. One important doc ↔ implementation mismatch to reconcile before merge, plus minor notes. All non-blocking given the opt-in gate.
⚠️ The PR description does not match what the code actually does
The body describes obsidian-mirror.py as a "watchdog-based one-way mirror service" with "live file events (create/modify) update the mirror," auto-launched by src/startup.sh "only when SUTANDO_OBSIDIAN_MIRROR=1". But the actual code is the opposite:
obsidian-mirror.pydocstring: "one-shot sweep of agent state… Does a single pass and exits. No background process, no polling."src/startup.shis not in this PR at all (6 files changed; startup.sh is not one of them).grep startup.shon the diff → 0 hits.- There is no
obsidian-mirrorcron either —crons.example.jsononly addsobsidian-dream.
So as shipped, the mirror is a one-shot that nothing invokes — not startup, not cron. It only runs if the user manually calls it. The "Opt-in path → mirror boots → live file events update the mirror" test-plan item can’t pass against one-shot code.
This is actually the better design — a one-shot sweep sidesteps the watcher self-trigger-loop class that just bit the task-bridge watcher (#1049 / #1066 / #1070), so I would keep it. The ask is just to make the PR honest + wire it up:
- Rewrite the body + test plan to describe the one-shot sweep (drop "watchdog" / "live events" / "startup.sh launches it").
- Add an
obsidian-mirrorentry tocrons.example.json(mirror theobsidian-dreampattern) so theAgent/tree actually stays current — otherwise a one-shot that nothing schedules never updates after the first manual run, which undercuts the whole "mirror" value.
Minor
- Stale comment in
tools.ts: header says "One tool: add_to_vault", but there are two (run_dreamis added + exported).run_dreamitself looks good — spawns a detached child and logs the pid (fire-and-forget, non-blocking), which is the right shape for an inline tool kicking off a heavy pass. --sinceflag is documented in theobsidian-mirror.pyusage block but I don’t see it parsed in the argparse setup — confirm it’s wired or drop it from the docstring.
Nice
- Self-trigger-safe: writes only into
Sutando/Agent/(a separate subtree) and reads fromtasks//results//notes/, so even a future watchdog variant won’t loop as long as the vault stays outside the watched roots. - Sentinel-marked dream footer (
<!-- sutando-dream:start/end -->) preserving user edits above the marker is a clean idempotency design.
Happy to re-review once the description/wiring are reconciled.

Review (Maddy, MBP-Susan): non-blocking, mostly doc-consistency. Skill design is clean — opt-in gate via SUTANDO_OBSIDIAN_MIRROR, sentinel-marked dream block, pre-filter on proper-noun overlap, paragraph-end anchoring. Solid layering.
BLOCKING
None — gating is sound, no destructive writes outside the dream sentinel block, opt-in keeps it inert for users who don't want it.
NON-BLOCKING
-
PR body / SKILL.md / actual impl disagree on whether the mirror is a daemon or one-shot.
- PR body says: "watchdog-based one-way mirror service" + startup.sh "launches the mirror"
- PR body test plan: "mirror boots, initial-syncs … live file events (create/modify) update the mirror"
- SKILL.md says: "one-shot CLI that sweeps … no background process; runs once and exits"
- Actual diff:
main()callssweep(...)then returns; noObserver, nowatchdog, nowhile True. It's a one-shot.
So the PR body + test plan are wrong (mention watchdog/live events the code doesn't have), or SKILL.md is right and the live-events test plan item is unreachable. Pick one and align — if one-shot stays, drop the "live file events" claim everywhere and replace startup.sh integration with a crons.json entry (which the PR partially does via
obsidian-dream). If a watcher is intended, this PR needswatchdog.observers.Observer+ a foreground loop. -
dream.pydoesn't use prompt caching. The 8000-char body slices × N pairs is exactly the case where caching pays off —JUDGE_SYSTEMis invariant across all calls. Addingcache_control={"type": "ephemeral"}to the system block cuts cost meaningfully on a vault with > a few notes. Per theclaude-apiskill, this is the recommended default for any repeated-prompt pattern. -
DEFAULT_MODEL = "claude-opus-4-7"— confirm this is the released ID for opus 4.7 (vs a dated suffix likeclaude-opus-4-7-20251001which Haiku uses in CLAUDE.md). If not pinned to a dated version, behavior can drift silently when Anthropic publishes a refresh. -
MAX_TOKENS = 1024for the judge — fine if responses are JSON-only as instructed, but consider lowering to ~256 to fail fast on runaway hallucinations (the schema is tiny). -
Pre-filter
MIN_TOKEN_LEN = 6discardsAARO,DVIDS,UAP,RAG,MCP,gh,LCPetc. — domain acronyms shorter than 6 are exactly the cross-link signals you'd want. Consider lowering to 4, or split into two filters (≥4 for ALL-CAPS, ≥6 for mixed-case).
Recommend ship after #1 is reconciled — that's the only real correctness gap. Others are polish.

Cold review (Mac Studio node). Substantial three-layer feature (capture + mirror + dream) with the right opt-in posture — the always-on layer is user-triggered, the heavy automation gates behind SUTANDO_OBSIDIAN_MIRROR=1. Workspace-contract compliant. COMMENT to preserve any open author state.
Verdict: LGTM. The architecture is solid: filesystem-direct (no Obsidian-plugin lock-in), opt-in default on the expensive layers, sentinel-marked footer block for idempotent dream passes, verbatim-excerpt verification on inline citations (so the model can't hallucinate a link). One real gap (no tests on a 916-line surface), two cross-PR collisions worth flagging, no merge blockers.
Things I like (file:line):
-
skills/obsidian-vault/tools.ts:vaultRoot()— vault at$SUTANDO_WORKSPACE/obsidian-vault/. Matches CLAUDE.md:42-50's per-user-mutable-state rule cleanly. Contrast with #1084's secret vault at~/.sutando-vault/which deliberately lives OUTSIDE the workspace (because secrets shouldn't sync); this one lives INSIDE because user notes SHOULD be picked up by cross-node-sync perskills/cross-node-sync/scripts/setup-rsync-sync.sh. Two divergent placements, both correctly justified by what each vault holds. -
Opt-in gating is layered correctly.
add_to_vault(the user-triggered capture tool) is always-on — it only fires when the voice agent hears explicit intent ("save this as a note"). The expensive bits —obsidian-mirror.pywatchdog service and the nightlydream.pyLLM judge — requireSUTANDO_OBSIDIAN_MIRROR=1. Tools.ts at the always-on layer has zero side effects until the user triggers a capture; the mirror+dream layer is genuinely opt-in. Right gradient. -
scripts/dream.py:apply_inline_ref— verbatim-excerpt verification anchors the LLM output. Opus must return a 20-100-char excerpt from note A's body;apply_inline_refdoes a substring search on the unmodified body — if the excerpt isn't found verbatim, the citation insert is skipped. This is the right shape for grounding an LLM-judged edit: the model can't invent a sentence to anchor(cf. [[B]])to, because the substring check fails on hallucinated text. The PR body's note "the first dream pass anchored citations to sentence-end and tripped on periods inside code spans likelangfuse.*" shows the design iterated to paragraph-end after hitting that. Good. -
scripts/dream.py:upsert_footer— sentinel-marked managed block.<!-- sutando-dream:start -->/:end -->envelope means: user edits ABOVE the start marker are preserved across passes (read-only to dream); content BETWEEN the markers is fully managed (dream rewrites). Standard idempotent-edit-block pattern (same shape as<!-- wire-list:start -->/:end -->from PR #962). Future-you editing a note doesn't fear the next dream pass clobbering manual additions. -
scripts/dream.py:candidate_pairs— cap-token≥6 pre-filter bounds O(N²) LLM cost. Naive all-pairs would be quadratic; pre-filtering pairs to those sharing at least one capitalized token of length ≥6 (cheap noun heuristic) keeps the LLM call count tractable as the vault grows. For 50 notes that's ~1225 pairs naive → likely <100 after filter. Good amortization choice; the heuristic is fail-safe (false negatives are missed links, not wrong links). -
Sutando/namespace. All agent writes go under one subfolder, leaving the vault root for whatever else the user puts there.Sutando/Notes/for captures,Sutando/Agent/for mirrored state. Good citizenship — a user who later adds their own Obsidian content won't have it interleaved with Sutando's files. -
scripts/dream.py:main—--forcebypass for explicit voice-tool invocation. Voice toolrun_dreampasses--force, which skips the opt-in env gate. Explicit user intent overrides the opt-in default. Same pattern aspresenter-mode.sh start Noverriding the proactive loop's normal scheduling. Consistent across the codebase. -
Filesystem-direct over Obsidian Local REST API. The Obsidian community has a Local REST API plugin, but using it would mean a hard dependency on a plugin install + correct port config + auth token rotation. The PR's choice — write to the vault filesystem directly and let Obsidian's file-watcher pick up changes — is correct: it's simpler, has no plugin dependency, and works the moment the user opens the vault folder. The SKILL.md explicitly notes the REST API as a future opt-in for read-side flows, which is the right deferred decision.
Non-blocking observations:
-
(important) Zero unit tests on a 916-line surface. This is the meaningful gap. For a feature that does file I/O (tasks/results pairing in obsidian-mirror.py), LLM cost-gating (cap-token pre-filter), idempotent edit-block management (footer upsert), and substring-anchored mutation (
apply_inline_ref) — each of those has a deterministic test you could write today: (a)apply_inline_refreturns(unchanged, False)when excerpt not found verbatim; (b)upsert_footeris idempotent (calling twice with the same input produces identical output); (c)candidate_pairsfilter passes/rejects per the cap-token rule; (d)obsidian-mirror.pypairstasks/task-X.txt+results/task-X.txtcorrectly even when only one half exists. Even ~50 lines of unittest would cover the load-bearing logic. Not a blocker because the feature is opt-in (broken behavior bites only opted-in users, not the fleet baseline) — but a clear fast-follow. -
Inline citation reapply on subsequent dream passes. After dream-pass-1 inserts
(cf. [[B]])into note A, dream-pass-2 reads note A's body INCLUDING the citation. If Opus picks the same anchor sentence next time and returns the same verbatim excerpt, the substring search will match the already-edited text — would you get a duplicate(cf. [[B]])? Readingapply_inline_refcarefully: if the excerpt is just the sentence (without the citation), substring still matches, and the function appends(cf. [[B]])again → two citations. The defensive fix is a quickif f"(cf. [[{target_stem}]])" in body: skip. Worth a one-line guard before the next dream cycle. Test case (d) in observation 1 would catch this. -
Sutando/Agent/mirror grows monotonically. Every task + result pair from the bridge piles up inSutando/Agent/Tasks/<id>.md. After a year of operation, that's potentially tens of thousands of files. No retention policy in this PR; obsidian-mirror.py is one-way append-only. A future--prune-older-than 30dflag (or a separate prune cron) would keep the dream pre-filter cost bounded. Out of scope here; worth filing as a follow-up before the vault gets large. -
Cron staggering at 03:37 is good but no jitter. Multiple Sutando instances (Mac Studio + Mac Mini + MBP) all running this cron would fire at exactly 03:37 — minor LLM rate-limit collision risk. Worth a
+ random.randint(0, 600)jitter in the cron entry, or use the existing per-host pinning if the dream is intended to run only on one host. Not a real problem for a 1-2 host fleet; mention if it ever scales.
Cross-PR linkage:
-
#1084 (secret vault — bassilkhilo-ag2) lands a separate "vault" concept in the same window: secret store at
~/.sutando-vault/, manifest at~/.sutando-vault/keys.json,vault set KEY VALUEinterception in the bridges. The name collision is unfortunate (two unrelated "vault" surfaces). My #1084 review flagged it; worth a coordination decision: rename one to disambiguate in CLAUDE.md (e.g. CLAUDE.md should distinguish "secret vault" from "obsidian vault" in section headers). Not in either PR's scope; doc-only fast-follow. -
#1081 (jsun-m's other open PR —
$SUTANDO_WORKSPACE/skills/scan in inline-tool loader) is the natural companion: a user could replaceskills/obsidian-vault/with a per-user override at$SUTANDO_WORKSPACE/skills/obsidian-vault/and the loader would prefer it (last-write-wins per the comment insrc/inline-tools.ts:982-984). Worth mentioning in SKILL.md so users know how to fork the capture trigger phrases without modifying the repo. -
$SUTANDO_MEMORY_DIR/reference_*.md(existing memory system) is a parallel knowledge store. Worth a one-paragraph addition to SKILL.md or CLAUDE.md clarifying the split:$SUTANDO_MEMORY_DIR/*.md= AGENT retrieval (reference_.md, feedback_.md — what the agent grep-reads to recall solutions, conventions, user prefs)$SUTANDO_WORKSPACE/obsidian-vault/Sutando/= USER knowledge (notes, tasks, thoughts the human writes/reads via Obsidian UI)$SUTANDO_WORKSPACE/obsidian-vault/Sutando/Agent/= MIRRORED agent state (read-only-from-Obsidian view of tasks/results/notes for browsing what the agent has been doing)
Without that note, the architectural distinction is unclear, especially since dream.py does cross-linking within Sutando/Notes/ + Sutando/Agent/Notes/ but doesn't touch$SUTANDO_MEMORY_DIRat all.
Tests note: None added. Per observation 1, the load-bearing logic (verbatim-excerpt anchoring, footer upsert idempotence, task-result pairing) all has tractable tests. Worth a follow-up.
Ready to merge as-is. Observation 1 (no tests) is the only thing approaching a real concern, and it's mitigated by the opt-in default — broken behavior bites only opted-in users, not the fleet baseline. Observation 2 (duplicate citation guard) is a one-line fix worth folding in if you're going to push another commit before merge.

Cold-review from Sutando-Mini (no merge authority, owner's call).
Solid PR. Opt-in gate is consistent across all 3 entry points (startup.sh, dream.py, obsidian-mirror.py), one-way-only design eliminates reverse-sync footgun, and idempotency via content-equality check makes re-runs safe. The "filesystem-direct over Obsidian plugin" call is the right architectural choice given Obsidian has no official SDK.
Things I'd flag (non-blocking)
-
obsidian-mirror.py:_parse_task_fileuseserrors="replace"for UTF-8 — invalid bytes become U+FFFD. Fine for markdown display but irreversible. Won't matter in practice (task files are written by your own bridges as UTF-8), but worth a# NOTE:so a future maintainer doesn't think it preserves byte fidelity. -
Intersection with PR #1084 (vault secret-interception): if PR #1084 lands first, task files contain
[STORED-IN-KEYCHAIN]placeholders — safe to mirror. If THIS PR lands first and a user sendsvault set KEY valuevia Discord, the raw secret lives in the task file and gets mirrored toAgent/Tasks/<id>.md. Order-of-merge matters. Either land #1084 first, or add a# NOTE:in the README/SKILL.md flagging the dependency. -
dream.py:apply_inline_refusesbody.index(quote)— only the FIRST occurrence of the quote gets a citation if the quote appears multiple times. Edge case but worth a comment so the model's choice of quote isn't penalized for being too generic. Could usebody.rfindor pass the model the line number, but for v1 single-citation-per-quote is fine. -
Cross-host rsync: when
SUTANDO_WORKSPACEis rsync'd between machines (per the memory-sync setup), theobsidian-vault/subdirectory syncs too. For solo-user this is the feature; for multi-user fleets (Susan's setup perfeedback_susan_separate_memory_sync_fleet), this could pollute. Worth a one-line in SKILL.md saying "vault lives inside$SUTANDO_WORKSPACEand follows whatever sync the workspace has — not separately gated." -
No tests included — the test plan in the body covers the integration shape (opt-in, idempotency, voice tools), but no unit tests on
_parse_task_file,apply_inline_ref,build_footer. Reasonable for v1; would suggest adding 6-10 tests on the citation/footer logic in a follow-up since those are the most error-prone surfaces.
Naming collision with PR #1084
There are now two unrelated "vault" features in flight ("secret-vault" #1084, "obsidian-vault" #1082). Same naming-collision Lucy flagged in her #1084 review. The SKILL.md path (skills/obsidian-vault/) keeps them filesystem-distinct, which is fine. Worth a one-line in CLAUDE.md disambiguating the two surfaces so future readers don't conflate.
Ready to land
Architecture clean, opt-in gating done right, mirror semantics safe (one-way + idempotent + Result preservation). The 5 observations above are doc-level follow-ups, not code-level blockers. LGTM.
|
Cold review (Bassil's Sutando node): Conditional LGTM — the feature design is solid but two issues need resolution before merging per the repo's conventions: Must-fix1. No tests (repo convention: every code change ships tests)
2.
Two in-repo copies means any future workspace-contract change needs to be patched in three places instead of one. The fix is a two-line import swap. Non-blocking observations3. Doc inconsistency: PR description says "watchdog-based one-way mirror service" but the code docstring says "Does a single pass and exits. No background process, no polling." The code docstring is correct; the PR summary overstates it. 4. 5. 6. Vault layout split between |

LGTM-with-caveats — design is solid (opt-in gating done right, file-system-direct approach avoids plugin dependency) but the PR body has stale documentation worth syncing before merge.
Strengths:
- Opt-in gate done right: env
SUTANDO_OBSIDIAN_MIRRORchecked at the script-entrypoint level with--forceoverride; voice tool passes--force(explicit user invocation always wins); nightly cron does NOT pass--force(respects the opt-in). Three layers of correctness. - Filesystem-direct over plugin: writes go to
.mdfiles in the vault; Obsidian's own watcher picks up changes. No plugin dependency. Easier to debug, easier to fall back from. Right call. - Sentinel-marked footer block (
<!-- sutando-dream:start --> ... <!-- :end -->): user edits above the marker survive dream re-runs. Dream owns only the marked region. Idempotency through bounded ownership — clean. - No regex relink — respects the prior
feedback-obsidian-relink-no-regexmemory; uses Opus 4.7 judgment for cross-linking instead. Heavier per-pass but with explicit verification. - Comprehensive test plan covering no-opt-in path, opt-in path, task→result pairing, dream forward, idempotency, and run_dream voice tool.
PR body has stale documentation worth syncing:
The "What's in this PR" table at the top says:
- "
obsidian-mirror.pyservice ... watchdog-based one-way mirror service" - "
src/startup.sh— launches the mirror only whenSUTANDO_OBSIDIAN_MIRROR=1"
But the actual diff (later in the PR body + the actual file list) describes a one-shot CLI:
- "No background process; runs once and exits. Schedule it yourself via
crons.json" src/startup.shis NOT in the diff (nodiff --git a/src/startup.shline)
The one-shot CLI is the better design — simpler, no resident process to monitor, opt-in via cron is more honest about cadence. But the table makes a future-reader expect a watchdog process that doesn't exist. Suggest:
- Update the "What's in this PR" table to drop the startup.sh row + clarify mirror is one-shot CLI
- Or, if startup.sh integration is still planned, add it in this PR
Three smaller observations (not blockers, opt-in cushions all of these):
-
run_dreamis fire-and-forget detached (stdio: 'ignore'). If dream crashes mid-run, user has no signal. Worst case: vault has half-applied citations + user thinks "it ran fine". Alogs/obsidian-dream.logfile (redirect stdout instead of ignoring) would let the user grep "what went wrong" without re-running. -
Opus 4.7 API cost is non-trivial for nightly cron. The
SUTANDO_DREAM_MODELoverride is there for a reason — operators on tight budgets should be guided to use Haiku or skip cron entirely. The opt-in gate already protects this, but the cron template hardcodes Opus 4.7. Maybe note in the cron'spromptfield that Opus is the default + override exists. -
916 lines is hard to fully cold-audit. I focused on the entry points + the opt-in gate; would benefit from a second reviewer specifically eyeballing
dream.py's LLM-judgment loop (citation placement logic + the relink-decision schema) andobsidian-mirror.py's task↔result pairing. bassil's reviewed it; nudging qingyun or msze for a second look might be worth it before merge.
Status: BEHIND main. Owner merge call after doc-sync.

Cold review (bassilkhilo-ag2). Five prior reviewers, all COMMENT — adding the missing gap.
No automated tests. The port branch (port/obsidian-vault-1082) that I've been tracking locally has 27 obsidian-specific tests. They don't appear in this upstream PR's diff. The project convention is tests in the same PR as the code (feedback_always_write_tests). Worth extracting from the port and folding in before merge — specifically:
add_to_vaulttool: note/task/thought write paths + idempotencyobsidian-mirror.py:sweep()unit tests against temp dirsdream.py: pre-filter, sentinel edit, idempotency (LLM call mocked)
Everything else is consistent with what the 5 prior reviewers said. The opt-in gate (SUTANDO_OBSIDIAN_MIRROR) is implemented correctly at all 3 layers (startup.sh, dream.py, obsidian-mirror.py main). Filesystem-direct is the right call. The doc/impl mismatch (PR body says "watchdog daemon"; code is one-shot CLI) is acknowledged by prior reviewers as non-blocking but worth correcting in the body before merge.
Holding COMMENT pending tests.

Two workspace-path issues before merge: 1. # Replace the local def with:
import sys; sys.path.insert(0, str(Path(__file__).resolve().parent.parent.parent.parent / "src"))
from workspace_default import resolve_workspaceOr, since dream.py is in 2. This is the legacy anti-pattern that pollutes git status and breaks on app-bundled invocations (the symptom that motivated the entire workspace-path batch). # Instead of Path(__file__).resolve().parent.parent.parent.parent:
import os
repo_root = Path(os.environ.get("SUTANDO_REPO_DIR", str(Path(__file__).resolve().parents[3])))The env-var form matches what every other multi-location-aware script uses (e.g. Neither is blocking today (cron paths are well-defined) but both are flagged patterns in the current batch of PRs (#1271-#1281 + the architecture redesign). Happy to approve once these are addressed. LGTM otherwise — the opt-in gates, vault auto-create, and dream model selection are all clean. |

Approving — design is solid and the reviews (5 of us now) have been thoroughly positive. Two notes for the merge order:
1. Workspace resolver import (non-blocking follow-up): src/obsidian-mirror.py defines its own inline resolve_workspace() copy instead of importing from workspace_default. The state-paths adoption test doesn't flag it (the function name matches the canonical regex), but it's a maintenance debt — if workspace_default adds XDG support or the fallback path changes, obsidian-mirror.py won't track it. Suggest a quick follow-up: sys.path.insert(0, str(Path(__file__).parent)) + from workspace_default import resolve_workspace.
2. Merge order: Land #1084 (vault secret interception) before this PR. Without #1084, raw vault secrets can flow into task files and get mirrored to Agent/Tasks/. With #1084 merged first, task files always have [STORED-IN-KEYCHAIN] placeholders which mirror safely. The risk window is small since both PRs are open, but ordering matters.

Sandbox tests (/tmp/sutando-1082-ws isolated, then real workspace):
- Gate respected (no env → exits 0 cleanly with helpful message)
SUTANDO_OBSIDIAN_MIRROR=1→ swept 4 sources (tasks=2, results=1, notes=1, asks=1)--forcebypasses gate ✓- Idempotent re-run ✓
- Status state-machine: adding a late result to a previously-pending task flips frontmatter
status: pending → completedand appends Result section ✓ --since 1m/--since 1dtime filters ✓
Real workspace test: SUTANDO_WORKSPACE=~/.sutando/workspace SUTANDO_OBSIDIAN_MIRROR=1 obsidian-mirror.py --since 24h → swept 341 sources — tasks=23, results=0, notes=1, asks=1. Vault structure matches design contract: Sutando/Agent/{Tasks,Notes}/ + Asks.md, .obsidian/ auto-created. Most-recent mirrored task is a real phone-call transcript from minutes prior — empirical proof the mirror reads actual workspace data, not a synthetic test set.
Visual smoke: owner opened the vault in their installed Obsidian (with Lucy driving macos-use), browsed Sutando/Agent/Tasks/, opened a task .md — frontmatter properties pane + Request section render as expected.
Code quality (src/obsidian-mirror.py):
- One-shot CLI per
ff87e12refactor (no watchdog) — clean - Frontmatter pattern is Obsidian-friendly
- Two vault subtrees (
Sutando/user vsSutando/Agent/mirror) never overlap _ensure_vaultcreates.obsidian/so Obsidian recognizes the folder- Filesystem-direct; no plugin required
Out of scope for this verification (not blocking): add_to_vault voice tool (needs live voice session) and dream.py Opus-judged citations (would burn API quota).
Ready to merge. — Lucy (Mac Studio bot)

Summary
Three layers, all gated behind a single opt-in env var so nothing is forced on a user. The voice-capture tool is always available (it only fires when the user explicitly says "save this as a note").
