spotted an issue with https://npmx.dev/package/nuxt - it's showing a vulnerability that shouldn't apply, and this is because we reported it vulnerable on 3.x, but there is no fix for 3.x. even though the second version range shows it as fixed in 4.x we were ignoring that...
Vulnerability results now exclude advisories when the package version falls outside the stated affected range, improving counts shown in dependency analysis and vulnerability badges.
Packages with no applicable vulnerabilities are no longer listed as vulnerable.
Vulnerability badges display zero when no reported vulnerabilities apply to the package version. This keeps badge counts consistent with the vulnerability results shown elsewhere.
The change adds shared OSV affected-range parsing and exclusion logic. Dependency analysis and registry badge counts exclude vulnerabilities that fall outside last_known_affected_version_range. The update also adds type support and tests for range boundaries and package matching.
Changes: OSV vulnerability filtering
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Parse and evaluate OSV ranges shared/types/dependency-analysis.ts, server/utils/osv.ts, test/unit/server/utils/osv.spec.ts
OsvAffected now supports last_known_affected_version_range. The OSV utility parses affected intervals and applies the database-specific range check. Unit tests cover range boundaries, explicit versions, and package matching.
Dependency analysis filters OSV results and omits results with zero vulnerabilities. Registry badge counts apply the same exclusion. Tests cover the Nuxt 4.6.3 case in both consumers.

The filtering change is mergeable with bounded follow-up: previously cached vulnerability results may remain visible until refreshed, and two small test additions would strengthen range-filtering coverage.

The assertion at osv.spec.ts:64 expects false for 2.0.0. An exclusive bound also returns false for that input, because no interval matches and the function returns excluded, which stays false. The existing test therefore does not detect a change to exclusive semantics.
The added case uses an open interval that also matches 2.0.0. The current code returns false at the matched last_affected interval before it reaches that open interval. Under exclusive semantics, the last_affected interval is skipped, and the open interval sets excluded to true. The new assertion would then fail.

Add a boundary test for isExcludedByLastKnownAffectedRange where a last_affected
interval and an open interval both match the queried version. Assert that the
version remains included, so the test detects changes that treat last_affected
as exclusive.
Add an excluded-plus-applicable advisory case to the exclusion test.
The test drops vulnerabilities excluded by last_known_affected_version_range mocks one advisory, and that advisory is excluded. Every assertion therefore expects zero. The test does not show that an applicable advisory remains when another advisory in the same OSV response is excluded. A change that drops the whole package in that case would still pass.
Add a second advisory to the OSV list and detail mocks that applies to nuxt@4.6.3. Assert that it remains in vulnerablePackages and is counted in totalCounts.total.

Bump the analyzeDependencyTree cache key when the filter changes.
The v2 key is unchanged, so entries cached before deployment are served without the new isExcludedByLastKnownAffectedRange filter. The excluded advisory can remain visible until those entries expire or are refreshed, which takes up to about one cache lifetime (maxAge 3600 s). Changing the key prefix stops old entries from being read.

Add a multi-interval case to the isExcludedByLastKnownAffectedRange tests.
No fixture in osv.spec.ts has more than one introduced/fixed pair in a single range. Dropping the second interval in parseRangeIntervals would leave these tests passing. A test with a trailing open interval after a closed one detects that loss.
Suggested test
it('checks the trailing open interval of a multi-pair range',()=>{constadvisory=vuln({ranges: [{type: 'ECOSYSTEM',events: [{introduced: '1.0.0'},{fixed: '2.0.0'},{introduced: '3.0.0'}],},],database_specific: {last_known_affected_version_range: '< 4.0.0'},})expect(isExcludedByLastKnownAffectedRange(advisory,'nuxt','4.6.3')).toBe(true)})
The hypothesis's example (fixed 4.0.0 closing the second pair) does not work for this function. Losing a closed interval leaves the result unchanged, so the test above uses an open interval instead.

Add a test in the `isExcludedByLastKnownAffectedRange` test suite using a single
range with a closed interval followed by a trailing open interval. Assert that a
version covered by `last_known_affected_version_range` is excluded, so the test
fails if `parseRangeIntervals` drops the trailing interval.
Add a badge test for a mixed-range advisory at the latest version.
The new test covers only an open range that last_known_affected_version_range excludes. A regression that drops every advisory with such a range would still pass. Add a case where dist-tags.latest is 4.6.1, which falls inside the fixed 4.0.0–4.6.2 interval, and assert that the badge shows >1<.

The applicable advisory has no affected entry, so the mixed-advisory test does not exercise an applicable advisory with a matching range. A regression that drops advisories whose affected ranges match nuxt@4.6.3 would still pass this test. Adding a matching range makes the test detect that regression.
The range [4.0.0, 4.7.0) contains 4.6.3. The advisory is therefore kept, and the existing assertions still hold.

Add a matching `affected` range to the `applicable` fixture in the
mixed-advisory test, covering `nuxt@4.6.3`, so the test verifies that advisories
with matching ranges are retained.
Add a 2.0.1 assertion for the open-range upper bound.
The test at osv.spec.ts:54-60 checks only the inclusive last_affected endpoint. No other test covers a version above last_affected with a separate bounded open range. A regression that rejects every last_affected interval would pass the suite, and the 2.0.1 result would flip to false. The current code returns true, so this is a coverage gap, not a defect.
