test: select injected stat targets by canonical path - #8029
Batched lane=all run 41136081084 on dev 6c86d0fad failed only in regression tests added by #8019/#8023:
codex-native-residue (macOS 2/4, Windows 3/11)
codex-main-account-refresh (macOS 3/4)
remote-workspace approved-root case (macOS 4/4, macos control)
These tests inject an adjacent large ino by spying on fs.statSync/lstatSync/fstatSync, and they picked the target with raw string equality (target === path). The code under test stats canonical paths. On macOS a temp path such as /var/... becomes /private/var/..., and hosted Windows uses an 8.3 short TEMP (C:\Users\RUNNER~1\...). The spy therefore never matched, the code saw the real file, and the assertion failed. The product code did not regress.
New tests/helpers/same-path.ts adds samePath(target, expected). It canonicalizes both sides with realpathSync.native, falling back to the nearest existing ancestor for paths not yet created, and compares case-insensitively on Windows. It never throws. All 33 target selections in the 14 test files changed by #8019/#8023 now use it. Assertions and production code are unchanged.
Verification
Reproduced the Windows failure locally by setting TEMP/TMP to their 8.3 short form: codex-native-residue gives 85 pass / 1 fail before the change and 86 pass / 0 fail after.
Each of the 15 affected test files passes on Windows with both the normal and the short-path TEMP: remote-workspace 18, catalog-write-audit 40, coordinator-doctor 8, history-provider 105, main-account-refresh 14, native-residue 86, shim-windows-revision 20, transition-state 27, native-main-owner-lifetime 11, config-mutation-lock 32, file-identity-callers 27, file-identity 6, cc-switch-import 10, command-code-project-context 43, service-ownership-state 47.
bun run typecheck, test-layout and file-size ratchet guards: pass.
NOT RUN: macOS locally (no Mac host). It is covered by the batched lane=all dispatch on dev after merge.

Tests
Improved filesystem-path matching in test coverage so equivalent path representations are recognized consistently across platforms.
Updated mocked filesystem checks for identity, ownership, and file-access scenarios.
Regression tests from #8019/#8023 matched the spied path by raw string; code under test stats canonical paths (/private/var on macOS, long names for an 8.3 short TEMP on hosted Windows), so the injection never applied (lane=all run 41136081084). Add tests/helpers/same-path.ts and use it for every target selection.

Walkthrough
Added a test helper that compares canonical filesystem paths, including paths with existing symlinked ancestors and missing components. Updated filesystem mocks across client, Codex integration, config, library, provider, and service tests to use it instead of direct string equality.

Explanation
The title "test: select injected stat targets by canonical path" matches the main change. The PR replaces raw string equality in mocked fs.statSync, lstatSync, and fstatSync target selection with a new samePath helper that compares canonical paths. The title names the change, the test scope, and the canonical-path mechanism, so it is specific and accurate for this changeset.

Explanation
Docstring coverage is 0.00% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 2 functions across 15 files.

The existing tests exercise samePath only inside filesystem mocks. Their fixtures use ordinary string paths, so the assertions can pass even if the helper regresses to raw equality. Add focused tests for a symlinked ancestor with a missing suffix, a file URL, and Windows case-insensitive comparison.

Maintainer integration (lane L1). Squash-merging into dev under the maintainer-integration exception in MAINTAINERS.md. This records the decision; it is not a self-approval. It repairs dev, which is red in batched lane=all 41136081084 because of tests I added in #8023.
Exact head:65f60f2bafe43e4d8c222afd6c893fb88114940f Exact-head CI:CI run 41139403829 (headSha 65f60f2…, conclusion success): gates, test changed and ci success. hygiene and enforce-target pass.
Review: a fresh independent reviewer, not the author, returned NEAR-PASS. It reproduced the hosted-Windows condition with an 8.3 short TEMP, under which codex-native-residue passes 86/0 at this head. It confirmed that every replaced selection targets the same path as before and that no assertion changed. Residuals, none blocking:
samePath has no dedicated edge-case test.
realpathSync.native follows a final symlink. For the one symlink case in command-code-project-context this matches what production opens.
Raw string comparisons remain in non-stat test hooks (for example in codex-history-provider.test.ts). There is no evidence they fail, so they are left unchanged.
macOS confirmation comes from the next batched lane=all, dispatched right after this merge. Union check: test-only (14 test files plus one helper), with no layout or baseline changes. Dev is still at base 6c86d0fad.
