feat(provider): add keyless CC-Switch provider import with preview, apply and restore - #7935
Users migrating from CC-Switch have custom provider configurations (provider IDs, app types, base URLs, wire dialects, and default models) stored in CC-Switch's SQLite database (~/.cc-switch/cc-switch.db) or legacy JSON configuration (config.json). Previously, every provider's base URL, adapter, and default model had to be re-entered by hand.
This adds ocx provider import-cc-switch, a local-only, keyless provider import workflow with preview, selective apply, and journaled restore:
Explicit non-secret allowlist projection: projects values only from an explicit allowlist of non-secret metadata fields (id, app_type, baseUrl, wire_api, and default model); source and embedded-config bytes are read transiently to scan the input while secret fields (API keys, bearer tokens, auth headers, OAuth credentials), free-text display names, and TOML comments are skipped at the byte level, never decoded into strings, written, or logged, and transient byte buffers are zeroed in finally.
Narrow URL path grammar & defense in depth: enforces http(s)://host[:port] with an empty path or 1–4 lowercase [a-z0-9._-] API path segments (such as /v1, /api/v1, or /compatible-mode/v1) plus identifier/model syntax checks before TextDecoder.decode, rejecting non-conforming entries fail-closed with non-echoing categories (invalid_base_url, disallowed_metadata). Validates destinations with providerBaseUrlConfigError and providerDestinationConfigError, refuses metadata addresses unconditionally, and requires --allow-private-network for loopback or private-network destinations.
Descriptor verification, pure-byte header detection, & fail-closed WAL / hard-link guards: opens the source once with O_RDONLY | O_NOFOLLOW | O_NONBLOCK, detects SQLite headers by pure 16-byte comparison without string decoding, verifies descriptor and path identity (dev, ino, nlink, uid, gid, mode, size, mtimeMs) before and after reading, refuses SQLite descriptors with fstatSync(fd).nlink > 1 (preventing hard-link aliases from bypassing sibling sidecar checks), refuses non-empty or unreadable sibling -wal / -journal files (asking the operator to close CC-Switch or checkpoint and retry), and deserializes SQLite read-only in memory via Database.deserialize without reopening user pathnames or writing temporary snapshots.
Preview, selective apply, and crash-safe restore:
Preview (default): writes nothing; reports discovered, eligible, conflicting, and invalid counts alongside the keyless provider entries.
Apply (--apply): requires a stopped proxy and refuses on a link Child; even without a prior preview, prints every imported provider id, model, and destination URL before writing the rollback journal or config.json (to stdout in text mode and stderr in --json mode, plus trustNotice in the JSON payload), acquires acquireOwnershipMutationLease, writes cc-switch-provider-import-journal.json via atomicWriteFileStreamed with a per-transaction UUID importId stamped in providers.<name>.note, and commits under mutatePersistedConfig. Repeated apply is refused while an active journal exists.
Restore (--restore): separate rollback path that requires a stopped proxy, refuses on a link Child, inspects auth.json read-only at the byte level (validating RFC 8259 escapes, surrogate pairs, and UTF-8 without decoding OAuth tokens, failing closed if unreadable or malformed), and removes only imported providers whose importId note and canonical SHA-256 fingerprint are unchanged and that are not selected as defaultProvider or referenced by routing, combos, fallback policy, OAuth accounts, or API keys (isProviderReferencedInConfig + validateConfigCandidate).

Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Added a command to preview, selectively import, and restore provider settings from CC-Switch SQLite or JSON files.
Imports include only non-secret metadata; API keys and tokens are not imported and must be added separately.
Preview makes no changes. Applying or restoring imports requires the proxy to be stopped.
Restore removes only eligible entries, preserving providers that have been changed or are in use.
Private-network destinations require explicit permission.
Documentation
Added command-line help and reference documentation for the import options.
…pply and restore
Adds ocx provider import-cc-switch to preview, selectively apply, and restore keyless provider entries from a CC-Switch SQLite database or legacy JSON file without reading, decoding, or writing credential values.
It looks like this branch is under active development. To avoid overwhelming you with review comments due to an influx of new commits, CodeRabbit has automatically paused this review. You can configure this behavior by changing the reviews.auto_review.auto_pause_after_reviewed_commits setting.
The pull request adds ocx provider import-cc-switch to preview, apply, and restore keyless provider metadata from CC-Switch SQLite or legacy JSON files. It adds source and destination validation, journaled configuration changes, CLI output, tests, and documentation.
The importer validates byte-level JSON and Codex TOML data, extracts allowlisted metadata from SQLite and legacy JSON, and checks source files and destinations. Tests cover metadata validation, secret exclusion, source immutability, and WAL handling.
Apply and restore provider changes src/providers/cc-switch-import.ts, tests/providers/cc-switch-import.test.ts
Apply and restore use a journal and guarded configuration changes. Restore retains providers that changed, are referenced, or cannot be safely removed. Tests cover retention, concurrent configuration changes, and recovery from interrupted writes.
Expose and document the import command src/cli/provider-cc-switch-import.ts, src/cli/provider.ts, src/cli/registry.ts, src/cli/capabilities-provider-models.ts, tests/cli/cli-provider-cc-switch-import.test.ts, scripts/test-layout/layout.json, tests/fixtures/test-layout-expected.json, skills/ocx/references/*, structure/cli-management.md, structure/INDEX.md, structure/manifest.json, docs-site/src/content/docs/*/reference/cli/providers-accounts.md
The CLI parses import options, dispatches preview, apply, and restore operations, and reports terminal or JSON output. Capability listings and operating documentation describe the command and its restrictions. CLI tests cover arguments, output, and error-message sanitization.

⚠️Unverified finding
Verification ran but could not confirm this finding. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.
Generate the model_providers header predicate from one helper.
The anchor step (lines 551–574) and the recursive step (lines 587–610) hold the same predicate. The two copies differ only in the source column, raw_cfg versus rest. Each copy expands the trim(replace(substr(…))) line expression about 25 times. The two copies can drift apart when someone edits one of them. The mismatch would change which [model_providers.*] tables the projection keeps, and nothing would flag it.
Build the predicate with a small TypeScript function. Interpolate it into both CTE steps. The unquoted-name branch and the quoted-name branch then each exist once in the source. Keep one lineExpr fragment so the line expression is not rewritten by hand.
constlineExpr=(src: string)=>`trim(replace(substr(${src}, 1, instr(${src}, char(10)) - 1), char(13), ''))`;// Returns the SQL boolean expression "this line is a [model_providers.<name>] header".// Keep every backslash and quote escape here, because this is a JS template literal.functionmpHeaderSql(line: string): string{constinner=`trim(substr(${line}, 2, instr(${line}, ']') - 2))`;constafterKey=`ltrim(substr(${inner}, 16))`;constname=`trim(substr(${afterKey}, 2))`;// ... same checks as today, written once ...return`(...)`;}// lines anchor step: CASE WHEN ${mpHeaderSql(lineExpr("raw_cfg"))} THEN 'mp' ELSE 'other' END// lines recursive step: CASE WHEN ${mpHeaderSql(lineExpr("rest"))} THEN 'mp' ELSE 'other' END
There is one related correctness point. Inside the JS template literal, '\\' reaches SQLite as '\'. The sequence '\"' reaches SQLite as '"'. The quoted-name check (lines 565 and 601) therefore removes every " from the name body, not only escaped ones. A header such as [model_providers."a"b"] passes the check and is classified mp. The raw header text then goes to parseCodexTomlBytes. Confirm that this parser rejects the unescaped inner quote. If the intent was to ignore only escaped quotes, change the check so that it does that.

Add ocx stop before --restore in the example block.
The block runs ocx start on Line 229 and then ocx provider import-cc-switch --restore on Line 231. Line 238 of the same page says restore requires a stopped proxy. Running the block in order fails at the last command.
Add a stop step before the restore command. Also state that restore is an alternative path, not a continuation of the credential flow.
Update the same example in the translated pages (fr, ja, ko, ru, tr, zh-cn, zh-tw). The path instructions require that translated locale pages do not contradict the English source.
As per path instructions: "Check that user-facing docs stay in sync with actual CLI/API behavior and that translated locale pages (ja, ko, ru, zh-cn) are not left contradicting the English source."

The forward-path example runs --apply without ocx stop. The same page says apply requires a stopped proxy. With a live proxy, the apply command fails before it writes anything, so the documented sequence does not work for a user whose proxy is running.

@lidge-jun Verified commit 28d025026cb5c49ad1916a07f972260fdf5458c0. It changes documentation only.
In docs-site/src/content/docs/reference/cli/providers-accounts.md, Line 232–234 now separates rollback from setup and places ocx stop before --restore.
Line 241 explicitly states that restore is a separate rollback path that requires a stopped proxy.
All seven translated pages (fr, ja, ko, ru, tr, zh-cn, zh-tw) now give the same rollback instruction.
This addresses the reported outside-diff finding from review 5694083349.

@coderabbitai Fixed the outside-diff finding from review 5694223101 in 035ad85 (docs-only): added ocx stop before ocx provider import-cc-switch ... --apply (and noted running ocx start in another terminal or ocx ensure before ocx account add-key), mirroring the full ordered sequence (preview -> ocx stop -> --apply -> ocx start -> add-key; separate rollback: ocx stop -> --restore) across English and all seven translated providers-accounts.md pages.
Describe transient secret-byte handling instead of claiming secret fields are never read.
The importer reads source bytes and scans skipped values. Embedded Codex configuration is also decoded into temporary bytes before projection. Secret values are not retained in provider metadata, but the importer can read their containing bytes. Replace the absolute claim with the actual projection and clearing behavior.
Suggested fix
-`ocx provider import-cc-switch` reads values **only** from an explicit allowlist of non-secret metadata fields (provider IDs, app types, base URLs, wire dialects and default models) and **never reads secret fields**, free-text display names, or TOML comments from a plain regular CC-Switch SQLite database or legacy JSON file.+`ocx provider import-cc-switch` projects values **only** from an explicit allowlist of non-secret metadata fields (provider IDs, app types, base URLs, wire dialects and default models). It reads source and embedded-config bytes transiently to scan the input, does not retain secret values in provider metadata, and clears transient byte buffers in `finally`.

@coderabbitai Fixed both findings from review 5694465512 in 6db8c3b: replaced "never reads secret fields" across English, all seven translated providers-accounts.md pages, CLI help/capability metadata, structure/cli-management.md, and the PR description with the exact projection/transient-byte behavior (projects only allowlisted non-secret fields, reads source/embedded-config bytes transiently while skipping secret fields, free-text names, and TOML comments at the byte level without decoding, writing, or logging them, and zeroes transient buffers in finally), and aligned all seven translated sections sentence-by-sentence with English (including all --restore retention conditions).

@lidge-jun Verified commit 6db8c3bbae9f1fdf57886240b6e878f76b13ae3c and the current PR description. Both findings from review 5694465512 are addressed.
Projection and transient-byte wording
docs-site/src/content/docs/reference/cli/providers-accounts.md, Line 239, now distinguishes allowlisted metadata projection from transient source-byte reads. It states that skipped secret fields, free-text names, and TOML comments are not decoded into strings, written, or logged. It also documents buffer zeroing in finally.
src/cli/capabilities-provider-models.ts, Line 87, and structure/cli-management.md, Line 186, use the same distinction.
src/cli/provider-cc-switch-import.ts, Line 111, Line 158, and Line 172, no longer claim that secret fields are never read.
The generated skill reference, importer header comments, and current PR description also contain the corrected wording.
Translated restore conditions
All seven translated providers-accounts.md sections now include the retention conditions from English. Restore preserves providers that changed, received credentials, became defaultProvider, or are referenced by routing, combos, fallback policy, OAuth accounts, or API keys.
Under docs-site/src/content/docs/, I checked:
fr/reference/cli/providers-accounts.md, Line 83.
ja/reference/cli/providers-accounts.md and ko/reference/cli/providers-accounts.md, Line 80.
ru/reference/cli/providers-accounts.md, Line 84.
tr/reference/cli/providers-accounts.md, Line 86.
zh-cn/reference/cli/providers-accounts.md, Line 85.
zh-tw/reference/cli/providers-accounts.md, Line 63.
This verification covers wording and translation parity. I did not run tests or revalidate runtime security guarantees.
Integration decision (maintainer @lidge-jun, admin, per MAINTAINERS.md dev-integration policy).
Exact head 6db8c3b → dev. Required check runs on this head: ci, enforce-target, hygiene, test 1/4–4/4 completed/success (test 1/4 initially failed in tests/codex-integration/messaging-remote-lifecycle.test.ts:236, a lease-renewal timing test unrelated to this diff; the failed job was rerun once and passed). 0 unresolved review threads, no outstanding maintainer objections.
Security review (credential-handling boundary): five independent rounds. Round 5 PASS at 2937f84 covering the allowlist delta; changes since then (035ad85, 6db8c3b) are docs, CLI help strings and file-header comments only, with no logic change. Contract: keyless import; values projected only from an explicit non-secret allowlist; secret fields skipped at the byte level and never decoded, written or logged; narrow base-URL grammar; O_NOFOLLOW|O_NONBLOCK descriptor checks; SQLite refused when hard-linked or with a non-empty -wal/-journal.

Summary
Users migrating from CC-Switch have custom provider configurations (provider IDs, app types, base URLs, wire dialects, and default models) stored in CC-Switch's SQLite database (
~/.cc-switch/cc-switch.db) or legacy JSON configuration (config.json). Previously, every provider's base URL, adapter, and default model had to be re-entered by hand. This adds
ocx provider import-cc-switch, a local-only, keyless provider import workflow with preview, selective apply, and journaled restore:ocx provider import-cc-switch --source <cc-switch.db|config.json> [--provider <id>]... [--apply | --restore] [--allow-private-network] [--json]id,app_type,baseUrl,wire_api, and defaultmodel); source and embedded-config bytes are read transiently to scan the input while secret fields (API keys, bearer tokens, auth headers, OAuth credentials), free-text display names, and TOML comments are skipped at the byte level, never decoded into strings, written, or logged, and transient byte buffers are zeroed infinally.http(s)://host[:port]with an empty path or 1–4 lowercase[a-z0-9._-]API path segments (such as/v1,/api/v1, or/compatible-mode/v1) plus identifier/model syntax checks beforeTextDecoder.decode, rejecting non-conforming entries fail-closed with non-echoing categories (invalid_base_url,disallowed_metadata).
