Summary

tests/codex-integration/bearer-admission-routed-provider.test.ts > "bearer admission is not reused as a Cursor upstream credential > Chat never treats a ChatGPT-claimed or combined bearer as a Cursor token" keeps timing out on hosted Windows: dev batch run 40617484699, job 122583366686 (windows 8/9, 31.7 s against the 30 s test timeout), and #7741's run 40307779368 (windows 8/9, 40.7 s, followed by a spend-ledger owner conflict in later tests).

The test was not stalled. It was slow by construction. For each of its 11 rows, the matrix started a fresh capture server, rewrote a legacy config, started a full proxy and stopped it again. Every row therefore re-ran the config migration (one pre-openai-tiers-v1-rollback backup per row in the job log) and the startup private-file ACL work, at 1–4 s per row on the hosted runner. The Responses variant of the same matrix took 18 s in that job.

Changes (test file only):

  • Each surface's matrix now uses one capture server, one config and one proxy. Only the request headers vary by row, so the routing under test is unchanged. Every row keeps its assertions: nothing reaches the Cursor upstream, Responses ends failed, and Chat is non-200.
  • A genuine Cursor bearer is sent before and after the negative rows on the same route and must reach the capture server. This keeps a cooldown or a disabled path from making the negative rows pass vacuously.
  • Teardown owns its fixtures. A Bun timeout does not unwind the test body's finally, which is how the 2026-10-26 run leaked a running server and its spend-ledger owner into later tests. Servers and capture fixtures register when they are created, and afterEach stops them before restoring the environment and removing the homes. A rejected startup gate stops its server before rethrowing.
  • New regressions: the matrix initializes once and brackets every row with live controls (both surfaces); cleanup stops a server still suspended in startup and frees its spend-ledger owner for a replacement in the same home; cleanup closes a capture fixture whose callback has not returned; and a rejected startup gate stops its server. Against the previous implementation, two of these fail, and they fail again with the cleanup disabled.

The 30 s budget, assertions and platforms are unchanged. Nothing is retried or skipped.

Verification

Windows 11, Bun 1.4.4 (OPENCODEX_BEARER_STAGE_TRACE=1, same host before and after):

Stage (ms) Responses before → after Chat before → after
save_config 802 → 108 606 → 97
startup_gate 6,298 → 770 4,838 → 743
request 746 → 83 608 → 111
server_stop 368 → 2 216 → 2
positive controls (2) — → 134 — → 135
matrix total 8,226 → 1,102 6,279 → 1,091
  • bun test --isolate tests/codex-integration/bearer-admission-routed-provider.test.ts, three consecutive runs: 76 pass / 0 fail each.
  • file-size-ratchet, test-layout, test-layout-tooling: 38 pass / 0 fail. bun run typecheck: exit 0.

Windows coverage: the evidence above is local only. Per the lane rules, no lane=all was dispatched for this PR. The coordinator verifies windows 8/9 in the next batched dev run.

NOT RUN: full bun run test; hosted Windows CI.

Checklist

  • Targets dev
  • Regression tests added
  • No retries, longer timeouts, skips or weaker assertions
  • No GUI change

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Tests
    • Expanded integration coverage for routed-provider admission scenarios, including positive control requests and shared setup across test cases.
    • Added checks for reliable cleanup when server startup or capture callbacks fail, including cases where cleanup itself encounters errors.
    • Improved coverage of setup and teardown tracing, suspended startup cleanup, and shared-resource handling.

Stop rewriting the legacy Cursor config and restarting a full proxy for each
bearer row. Share one fixture per surface, retain all eleven negative checks,
and bracket them with distinct Cursor wire controls.

Track proxy and capture lifetimes so afterEach can close resources left by a
timeout while startup or a request is pending. Cover fixture reuse, pending
and rejected startup cleanup, and pending capture cleanup without retries,
skips, or budget changes.

Walkthrough

The bearer-admission integration tests now track server and capture-fixture cleanup. Each traced admission matrix reuses one server and capture fixture, with positive controls before and after its negative cases.

Changes: Bearer admission test harness

Layer / File(s) Summary
Fixture lifecycle and cleanup
tests/codex-integration/bearer-admission-routed-provider.test.ts
The test helpers track active servers and capture closers. Cleanup is shared while in progress, reports rejected cleanup operations, and runs during teardown or when the startup gate rejects.
Shared matrix tracing
tests/codex-integration/bearer-admission-routed-provider.test.ts
The matrix traces shared fixture setup and positive controls, then runs negative cases using the same server and capture fixture. Added seam tests cover event order and cleanup during suspended startup or capture callbacks.

A rejected stop stayed cached, so afterEach re-read the failure and left the server and its spend-ledger owner registered. A failed attempt now clears the cache and keeps the server registered for the next cleanup.

Maintainer integration into dev: all 26 checks passed on exact head 950ca27, which merges into current origin/dev without conflict; no unresolved review threads. Independent review (GPT-6.1 Sol, high) returned PASS with zero blocking findings at a87ecb3 and reran the file on Windows (76/0). The follow-up commit only makes fixture cleanup retry a rejected stop (CodeRabbit finding), with a red-then-green regression; the file passes 77/0 with --isolate on Windows 11, Bun 1.4.4. No lane=all was dispatched: windows 8/9 is left to the next batched dev run.
