What

Analysis only, step 4 of #9000: which hand-written Rust files of our own repositories t27o converts whole, what a port would delete, and which of them a generated file replaces without changing a caller. One new file, docs/now/2026-10-20-golden-candidates.md. No Rust is deleted and no spec is added.

Closes #11149

Numbers

  • 1,388 swept .rs files; 85 have every fn converted; 4 of those refuse a struct or an item and are not whole; 1 of the remaining 81 is a test-only integration test. 80 ranked rows, 3,006 physical hand lines (2,569 non-blank, 1,301 inside #[cfg(test)]), 0.69% of the swept lines.
  • Per row: lines, fns, tests, public items, callers outside the file, crate and whether the trios workspace builds it, t27c test-report (all 85 exit 0, vacuous count per row), an oracle replay of tri t27o --check (all 85 pass), the gen-rust signature mapping against the original, and a verdict.
  • Verdicts: PORTABLE-NOW 78 rows (2,864 lines), NEEDS-CALLER-CHANGE 1 (SC-00, Vec2::new becomes a free fn), NOT-NOW 1 (trios-rainbow-bridge/src/lib.rs, a module hub whose 8 pub mod and 8 pub use the converter drops without a refusal).
  • 70 of the 80 rows are 20-32 line scaffold stubs with no caller; 73 of 80 are in trios crates the workspace does not build (checked against main's Cargo.toml members and Cargo.lock).
  • 8 more files convert whole in trios main (the sweep read a feature-branch checkout that lacks 153 .rs files); all 8 are generated (trios-mesh/gen/rust), excluded.

First candidate

Seven rows delete at least 100 lines with every caller unchanged (five CR-CHAT guards, trinity_loss, bitmask). The first one deliverable today is bootstrap/src/host/bitmask.rs: 170 lines (96 #[cfg(test)]), one caller (host/mod.rs, two lines), t27c test-report 14/14 with 0 vacuous, oracle replay 25 tests pass with 95 asserts, a differential run of the hand file against the generated file made 68,268 comparisons with 0 disagreements, a #[path] mount of the generated file built in a simulated tree, and the own-language budget compiled from the base revision returns rc 0 for the port's numstat (+1 / -171 hand lines). trios has no generated root and no gate, so its rows are safe for callers but not yet deliverable.

Checks run

  • python3 -I tools/check_devhome_paths.py rc 0; tools/check_now_entry_shape.py ok; file is ASCII, no developer-home paths.
  • Not run: tri t27o --check itself (no tri build; replayed by hand with a driver built from master's converter), any cargo build or cargo test. The Not run section of the document lists the rest.

…, ranked by the hand lines a port deletes (Closes #11149)

Analysis only, step 4 of #9000: no Rust is deleted and no spec is added.

85 of the 1,388 swept files have every fn converted; 4 refuse a struct or an
item and are not whole, one of the 81 is a test-only file. The 80 ranked rows
hold 3,006 hand lines (0.69% of the swept lines); 70 of them are 17-32 line
scaffold stubs with no caller, and 73 sit in trios crates the workspace does
not build.

Per row: lines (non-blank, cfg(test)), fns, tests, public items, callers,
crate and workspace membership, t27c test-report (all 85 exit 0), an oracle
replay (all 85 pass), the gen-rust signature mapping against the original, and
a verdict. 78 rows are PORTABLE-NOW (2,864 lines), SC-00 needs a caller change
(Vec2::new becomes a free fn), rainbow-bridge lib.rs is NOT-NOW (a module hub
whose 8 pub mod and 8 pub use the converter drops without a refusal).

Seven rows delete at least 100 lines with every caller unchanged. The first
one deliverable today is bootstrap/src/host/bitmask.rs (170 lines, one caller:
two lines of host/mod.rs); a differential run of hand against generated code
made 68,268 comparisons with 0 disagreements, and the own-language budget
returns rc 0 for the port's numstat. trios has no generated root and no gate,
so its rows are safe for callers but not yet deliverable.

Total Open PRs 50
PRs with Failing Checks 47
PRs with All Checks Green 3
READY 2
FAILING 47

These columns do not partition: 2 + 47 + 0 + 0 = 49, and there are 50 open PRs. A PR is being counted twice or not at all.

Seal Status

  • ⚠️ STALE -- sha256(compiler.rs)=e34e1b174c96 != manifest seal=87e5cbd3ad94.
    The committed NMSE numbers were certified against an older compiler.rs.
    Run scripts/reseal-check.sh locally for the two-step reseal command (advisory; not a merge gate).

…ted to 20-32 lines (Closes #11149)

The callers column now starts with the number of files outside the row that
name a public item (0 for the 70 scaffold stubs), and names the three files
that use trios-rainbow-bridge. The scaffold stubs are 20-32 physical lines,
not 17-32 (17 was the non-blank minimum).
