Description

Bumps cloud.google.com/go/storage from v1.62.1 to v1.68.0.

This is routine dependency maintenance — no source files change.

What moves

Module From To Kind
cloud.google.com/go/storage v1.62.1 v1.68.0 direct
google.golang.org/api v0.279.0 v0.287.1 direct
cloud.google.com/go/longrunning v1.0.0 v1.2.0 indirect
github.com/googleapis/gax-go/v2 v2.22.0 v2.23.0 indirect
github.com/googleapis/enterprise-certificate-proxy v0.3.15 v0.3.17 indirect
golang.org/x/crypto v0.52.0 v0.53.0 indirect
golang.org/x/net v0.55.0 v0.56.0 indirect
google.golang.org/genproto/... (dated) (dated) indirect
.../opentelemetry-operations-go/exporter/metric v0.56.0 v0.57.0 indirect
.../opentelemetry-operations-go/internal/resourcemapping v0.56.0 v0.57.0 indirect

google.golang.org/api is a direct dependency and moves as part of this
bump — storage v1.68.0 requires the newer version via MVS, so the two cannot be
separated. Flagging it explicitly since it is a larger surface than the storage
bump alone.

On the deprecated OpenTelemetry modules

This PR does not remove the deprecated
GoogleCloudPlatform/opentelemetry-operations-go modules, in case that question
comes up. They remain required transitively and cannot be dropped from this
repo:

  • exporter/metric is a direct requirement of cloud.google.com/go/storage
itself (consumed in its grpc_metrics.go), still present at v1.68.0.
  • detectors/gcp is a direct requirement of its own suggested replacement,
    go.opentelemetry.io/contrib/detectors/gcp.

Neither module is imported by any package in this repository — both carry
// indirect. Removing them would require changes upstream in
googleapis/google-cloud-go and open-telemetry/opentelemetry-go-contrib.

Discussion

  • Read the contribution guidelines (CONTRIBUTING.md).
  • Linked issue — none filed; this is routine dependency maintenance rather
than a behavioral change. Happy to open an issue first if maintainers
    prefer that for dependency bumps.

Testing

  • All existing tests pass after the change.
  • go build ./... and go vet ./... both clean.
  • New test added — not applicable; this is a dependency version bump with no
source changes and no new behavior to cover.

Unit suites (auth, db, messaging, storage, remoteconfig, appcheck,
iid, internal, phonenumberverification, auth/hash) all pass.

The integration/* suites fail locally for lack of credentials
(testdata/integration_cert.json) and a project ID. Verified this failure set is
identical on master before the change, so it is environmental and not a
regression from this bump.

API Changes

None. No public API is affected — the change is confined to go.mod and
go.sum.

Code Review

This pull request adds .idea to the .gitignore file and updates several Go dependencies in go.mod and go.sum, including upgrading cloud.google.com/go/storage and google.golang.org/api. There are no review comments, and I have no feedback to provide.
