Summary
Eight *.csproj.bak backup files are tracked in git on main. They carry superseded project content: two still contain the altcover import that #929 removed from the live project file. They confuse repository-wide searches and consistency checks, and they are stale copies of build configuration.

Expected Behavior
Backup copies of project files are not tracked, and .gitignore excludes *.bak.
Actual Behavior
Eight backups are tracked, and two contain tokens that the live project files no longer have.

Restoring sections dropped by the promotion tooling.
Suspected Cause / Notes
Probably Visual Studio or NuGet migration backups that were committed by accident. Confirm that no build step or script reads them before deleting them.

Delivered by PR 960 (#960, merge commit 9a3d2dd), parallel run bugs-2026-09-28. All 5 acceptance criteria in issue.md are checked off; all seven checks green on head caead23 (run 36891614468) before merge. Follow-ups are filed separately by the run coordinator.
