[API Proposal]: Support reading/writing MadeBy field of ZipArchives #136502

Open

Description

@drauch

Background and motivation

We're processing zip archives from customers and need to extract/repack them on our side. We want to make the repacked zip as similar as possible to the original. E.g., we want to restore the original external attributes, however, those are interpreted depending on the "MadeBy" version field of the zip's central repository header. Unfortunately, we cannot:

  • Reliably read it from the original zip with the current API surface
  • Write the original value into the newly created zip so that the external attributes which we clone are going to be interpreted correctly on their side

API Proposal

Add a property to the ZipArchive class that allows reading & writing this field.

API Usage

zipArchive.MadeBy = oldZipArchive.MadeBy;

    Note that .Net 11 is adding the read-only property ZipArchiveEntry.VersionMadeBy.
