Fixes#5624. Queue task 10521 (follow-up from triage task 10090).
Problem
Directory::receive persisted any correctly signed friend-request envelope ID verbatim. A noncanonical ID (e.g. r1) was admitted, and when the friendship was later removed, the signed friend_remove artifact naming it was refused by the #3146 receipt contract (ArtifactLog::insert → parsed()) — even on the producing server — stranding the friendship permanently.
Change
Admission (Directory::receive): a FriendRequest envelope whose ID is not the canonical shape is refused (Forbidden) before anything is persisted. The oracle is the producer invariant: Envelope::signed mints 16 bytes as 32 lowercase hex, checked via the existing artifact::is_friend_request_id predicate (now pub(crate) so admission and receipt share one definition and cannot drift).
a_friend_request_with_a_noncanonical_id_is_refused_and_never_persisted — a correctly signed envelope with ID r1 is refused at receive; nothing is persisted and the genuine flow still works for the pair afterwards.
a_friendship_formed_by_a_legacy_noncanonical_request_can_be_removed — legacy state seeded the way journal replay loads it (request r1 applied + accepted): remove_friend now succeeds, the stored ID is voided verbatim, the signed artifact still parses under the strict contract and names no noncanonical ID; a pending legacy request is removable too.
Local run on the laptop: cargo test --lib -- directory::tests artifact::tests — 92 passed, 0 failed; the two new tests pass individually. cargo fmt --check clean on the touched files (pre-existing fmt drift in unrelated files left alone). Local clippy is blocked by a pre-existing toolchain-cache mismatch (E0514 in crates/id-core, unrelated to this change) — CI clippy is the check to watch.

Summary by CodeRabbit
Bug Fixes
Friend requests with IDs that do not match the expected format are rejected before they can appear as pending requests.
Removing friends or pending requests continues to clear legacy entries with nonstandard IDs from the local list, while removal records include only IDs in the supported format.
Removing an earlier friendship no longer removes a newer one. Cleanup of legacy entries also works when a removal record is missing from the journal.
… legacy removals (#5624)
Directory::receive now refuses a friend-request envelope whose ID is not the canonical shape the producer mints (16 bytes as 32 lowercase hex, artifact::is_friend_request_id) before anything is persisted, so a correctly signed noncanonical ID can no longer be admitted and strand the friendship at friend_remove receipt (#3146).
remove_friend keeps the legacy path safe without weakening #3146: the signed FriendRemove artifact carries only canonical IDs (receiving servers still end the friendship by pair), while the local FriendRemoved entry carries every stored ID verbatim so pre-validation IDs are voided in removed_requests instead of making the removal unrepresentable.
Regression tests: noncanonical admission refused and never persisted; a friendship formed by a legacy noncanonical request (and a pending one) can be removed, with the artifact still parsing under the strict contract. Oracle: the canonical-shape invariant minted by Envelope::signed.

Walkthrough
Friend-request admission now rejects noncanonical IDs. Friend removal filters noncanonical IDs from signed artifacts while retaining them in local state. Receipt and recovery derive removal effects for legacy friendships and pending requests.
The shared ID predicate is crate-visible. Directory::receive rejects friend requests with noncanonical IDs. Tests cover rejection and canonical request receipt.
Local removal retains all stored IDs, but signed artifacts include only canonical IDs. Receipt derives effects for legacy friendships and pending requests. Tests cover removal and cancellation.
Replay removal effects pkgs/id/src/directory.rs
Writer open and read-only replay apply derived removal effects. Tests cover missing journal entries and ensure an older removal does not end a newer friendship.

Recovery can silently delete a newer friendship when an older legacy removal artifact is replayed. Fix that before merging, or explicitly accept it. Separately, the noncanonical-ID refusal test does not check the journal, which is a minor coverage gap.

Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
Issue #5624 is the only active direct target, with no parent context. Its coding requirements are: (1) validate the canonical friend-request ID shape before fresh admission; (2) keep a safe removal path for persisted noncanonical IDs; (3) add regression tests for admission and legacy removal; (4) do not weaken the friend_remove.requests contract (#3146).
(1) Admission: Directory::receive refuses EnvelopeKind::FriendRequest when artifact::is_friend_request_id fails. The check runs after the seen-set duplicate lookup and before any persistence. The predicate requires 32 lowercase hex characters, the shape Envelope::signed mints. Met.
(2) Legacy removal: Directory::remove_friend filters the signed requests to canonical IDs and stores all IDs verbatim in DirectoryEntry::FriendRemoved, so legacy IDs are voided. The later commits extend this to recovery and read-only replay (friend_removal_effect, legacy_pair_requests). An empty-request removal ends a legacy-formed friendship and cancels legacy pending IDs. Met on the code shown.
(3) Tests: a_friend_request_with_a_noncanonical_id_is_refused_and_never_persisted and a_friendship_formed_by_a_legacy_noncanonical_request_can_be_removed are present. The diff also adds a read-only replay test for a lost removal journal line. The author's reported run (92 passed) predates the two later commits, so the new tests are not shown to pass. This does not change the verdict on the requirement text.
(4) Receipt contract: the artifact.rs diff changes only the visibility of is_friend_request_id and its doc comment. The friend_remove parser is unchanged.
Residual uncertainty: the directory.rs diff was truncated at 16000 bytes after the read-only replay test. Hunks after that point were not reviewed.

Docstring coverage is 87.50% which is sufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
Changes in scope: the artifact.rs visibility change, the admission refusal in Directory::receive, the remove_friend filter and voiding, and the two admission and removal tests. These map to #5624 scope items 1 and 2 and acceptance criteria 1 to 3.
Changes needing a connection check: commit 076aec6 (title: 'legacy removals target only their own formation') adds friend_removal_effect. That function applies the formed-by rule to every removal that names requests, not only to legacy removals. In the recovery writer path (previously applied when are_friends or requests were non-empty), a canonical removal naming requests that exclude the current formed-by ID is now skipped. This changes canonical-state behavior in recovery and replay. The change is plausibly tied to #5624 because it prevents stale earlier-formation removals from ending a newer friendship. The diff does not show that link for canonical IDs.
The directory.rs diff was truncated at 16000 bytes after the read-only replay test. Test coverage for the earlier-formation rule and any hunks after the truncation point are unknown.
Resolution
Provide the directory.rs diff for the omitted hunks, or a narrower view of the earlier-formation tests and the recovery-path hunks at the head commit. Confirm whether the formed-by rule is intended for canonical removals as well as legacy removals, and whether the author's commit title or PR description should state that scope.

Apply legacy removals during read-only replay
When a friendship was formed by a legacy noncanonical request such as r1, this filter produces a removal artifact with requests: []. However, Directory::replay_read_only only applies a removal when its request list contains the friendship's formed_by ID. Consequently, a replica holding the projected legacy friendship and receiving this artifact retains the friendship when opened through world_store::open_replica. The same problem occurs during read-only recovery if the artifact was persisted but the local removal journal entry was lost. Update the replay handling alongside this new artifact representation so successful legacy removals also take effect outside the producing directory.

Fixed in b198fe1 — thank you, the finding was correct.
Directory::replay_read_only now applies a stored removal by pair when the friendship was formed by a noncanonical (legacy) request ID — the case where the artifact cannot legally name the formed-by ID under #3146 — mirroring writer open. The formed-by match still gates canonical removals, so a removal cannot end a later re-formed friendship.
Regression test: a_legacy_removal_takes_effect_on_read_only_replay_when_its_journal_entry_is_lost seeds legacy state in a journaled directory, removes the friendship, drops the removal's journal line (crash between artifact store and journal append), and asserts both replay_read_only and writer open end the friendship. Full directory+artifact suites: 93 passed, 0 failed.
Assert journal state in the noncanonical friend-request refusal test.
a_friend_request_with_a_noncanonical_id_is_refused_and_never_persisted creates both directories with Directory::new(), which does not open a journal. Its only persistence check reads in-memory state (away.requests.is_empty()). The test does not read the journal. A change that writes a refused request to the journal without updating in-memory state would not fail it.
Create away with Directory::open on a temporary path, as an_open_directory_journals_accepted_changes_and_nothing_refused does. Call sign_up first so the journal file exists. Record the journal line count, run the refused receive, and assert the count is unchanged. Then reopen the same path and assert that no pending request exists for the pair.

Codex P2 on the #5624 PR: replay_read_only only applied a removal whose requests named the friendship formed-by ID, but a legacy removal artifact cannot name a noncanonical formed-by ID (#3146), so replicas kept the friendship. Apply the removal by pair when the friendship was formed by a noncanonical ID, mirroring writer open. Regression test: legacy removal takes effect on read-only replay (and writer open) when its journal entry is lost.

Preserve newer legacy friendships during read-only replay
If a pair previously removed a canonical friendship and then befriended again through a legacy noncanonical request such as r1, the artifact log still contains the older removal naming the canonical request. Read-only replay restores the current friendship from the journal, then scans all historical removal artifacts. This new legacy_formed bypass applies the older removal even though its request list does not match r1, incorrectly deleting the current friendship when opening a replica through world_store::open_replica. Preserve the distinction between an unrelated historical removal and a removal of the current legacy friendship.

Fixed in 076aec6 — thank you, the finding was correct.
Recovery (writer open and replay_read_only, now sharing one friend_removal_effect helper) no longer applies a stored removal by pair merely because the current friendship is legacy-formed. A removal whose request list is non-empty and does not name the current formed-by ID targeted an earlier formation of the pair and is skipped; the legacy bypass now applies only to the legacy signature — an artifact naming no requests at all, which is the only form a removal of a legacy-formed friendship can take under #3146.
Regression test: a_newer_legacy_friendship_survives_an_older_canonical_removal_in_replay removes a canonical friendship, re-forms the pair through legacy request r1, and asserts both replay_read_only and writer open keep the newer friendship. Full pkgs/id lib suites pass on the laptop (id-core 317 passed, 0 failed); directory::tests 59 passed including the new regression tests.

Apply legacy pending-request cancellations outside the producer
When removing a pending legacy request such as r2, this filter emits requests: [] while the local journal entry successfully clears the request. However, receive_artifact only applies a removal when the pair are friends or the filtered request list is nonempty, so another server holding that pending request stores the artifact without cancelling it. Writer recovery likewise leaves the pending request intact if the artifact survives but the local removal journal entry is lost. Handle pending legacy cancellations in receipt and recovery alongside this new representation; the added test currently checks only the successful local cancellation.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Fixed in 076aec6 — thank you, the finding was correct.
An empty-request removal artifact (the legacy signature: the #3146 contract refuses the noncanonical ID, so a legacy cancellation can name nothing) now cancels the pair's locally held legacy state outside the producer:
receive_artifact: with no friendship and no pair-bound named requests, an empty-request artifact applies a FriendRemoved entry carrying the pair's locally held legacy pending IDs verbatim, so they land in removed_requests and the pending request is cleared on the receiving server. A canonical pending request is untouched — a removal of it would name it.
Recovery (writer open + replay_read_only, via the shared friend_removal_effect helper): the same rule applies when the artifact survived but the producer's journal entry was lost.
Legacy friendship removals received the same way now also void the pair's stored IDs in the local entry, mirroring the producer.
Regression tests: a_pending_legacy_request_is_cancelled_by_an_empty_removal_artifact_on_receipt and a_pending_legacy_cancellation_survives_a_lost_journal_entry_in_recovery. Full pkgs/id lib suites pass on the laptop (id-core 317 passed, 0 failed); directory::tests 59 passed including the new regression tests.
…ending legacy cancellations propagate (#5624)
Codex round-2 on PR #6239: (1) recovery (open + replay_read_only, now sharing friend_removal_effect) no longer ends a newer legacy friendship for an older canonical removal artifact - a non-empty request list that does not name the current formed-by ID targets an earlier formation; the legacy bypass is only the empty-request signature. (2) Empty-request artifacts now cancel locally held legacy pending IDs in receive_artifact and in recovery, carrying them verbatim into removed_requests; legacy friendship removals received likewise void the pair stored IDs. (3) CodeRabbit: friend-request ID shape check in receive() moved below the seen duplicate lookup. Tests: 3 new regression tests; directory::tests 59 passed, full pkgs/id lib suites pass.

Preserve newer friendships when replaying empty legacy removals
After removing a legacy friendship and then forming a new friendship through a canonical request, the artifact log still holds the earlier empty-request removal. Both recovery paths scan that historical artifact, and this condition exempts it from matching the current formed-by ID. Consequently, restarting the directory or opening a read-only replica silently deletes the newly established friendship and voids its canonical request ID, even when no journal entry was lost. Distinguish an already-applied legacy removal from one targeting the current friendship.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Fixed in 0d24306 — thank you, the finding was correct.
friend_removal_effect (shared by writer open and replay_read_only) now applies the empty-request legacy signature only to a friendship it could have targeted: one formed by a noncanonical request ID, or formed with no request ID at all. A friendship whose formed-by ID is canonical returns no effect, so the already-journaled legacy removal in the artifact log no longer ends a newer canonical friendship or voids its ID on restart/replay.
Regression test: a_newer_canonical_friendship_survives_an_older_legacy_removal_in_replay — legacy friendship formed and removed, pair re-befriends canonically, and both recovery paths keep the friendship and leave its request ID unvoided. Laptop: directory::tests 61 passed, artifact::tests 37 passed, rustfmt clean on the touched file.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Preserve newer pending requests during read-only recovery
When a canonical request r1 has been removed and the pair later creates a new pending request r2, read-only replay now applies the historical removal again through this branch. pair_bound_requests retains r1 because it only excludes IDs belonging to other pairs, while applying FriendRemoved unconditionally clears all pending requests for the named pair. Thus opening a replica silently cancels r2, although the artifact does not name it. The previous read-only recovery loop skipped pairs without an active friendship; preserve unrelated pending requests when recovering historical removals.

In friend_removal_effect's no-friendship branch, a stored removal with pair-bound named requests is now re-applied during recovery only when the pair's current pending state includes an ID the artifact actually names (applying a removal clears all pending requests for the pair). A newer pending request the artifact does not name survives; the named IDs stay voided via the removal's own journal entry.
Regression test: a_newer_pending_request_survives_an_older_canonical_removal_in_replay — canonical pending request removed, a new canonical pending request created afterwards, and both recovery paths (replay_read_only and writer open) keep the newer request pending. Detect pending requests that have no envelope ID
When a canonical request is removed and the pair subsequently creates a local request through request_friend_as, read-only recovery still cancels the newer request. The fresh evidence is that the local UI calls this API (directory_view.rs:1328), which stores id: None; pending_id flattens that into the same result as no pending request. Consequently, this collection is empty, the guard is bypassed, and applying the historical removal clears the newer pending request. Unlike the now-protected canonical-ID case, this supported local flow remains broken. Check for pending entries independently of whether they have IDs before reapplying an unrelated removal.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Fixed in a04cd46 — thank you, the finding was correct.
The recovery guard in friend_removal_effect now counts a pending entry itself, not just its flattened ID: has_pending checks the pair's keys in the requests map, so an ID-less pending request created through request_friend_as is pending state a named historical removal does not target, and it survives both recovery paths.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Preserve newer local friendships during read-only recovery
When a pair removes a friendship with an empty-request artifact and then befriends again through request_friend_as and accept_friend_as, opening a read-only replica deletes the newer friendship. The fresh evidence is that these APIs are used by the local UI (directory_view.rs:1328,1346) and create friendships without a formed_by ID, so the canonical-ID guard does not protect them. This branch reapplies the already-journaled historical removal to the newer friendship; the previous read-only loop skipped friendships without a formed-by ID. Distinguish already-applied removals from missing journal effects rather than treating every ID-less friendship as the target of an old empty removal.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Fixed in a04cd46 — thank you, the finding was correct.
The empty-request branch of friend_removal_effect now applies only when the current friendship's formed-by ID is present and noncanonical — exactly the #5624 legacy formation. ID-less formations (the local request_friend_as/accept_friend_as flow) are skipped, which is the behavior the recovery scan had for ID-less friendships before this PR, so a newer ID-less friendship is no longer deleted by a historical empty-request artifact on either recovery path.
Trade-off, stated plainly: a lost-journal-entry removal of an ID-less friendship is still not recovered by the artifact scan (no ordering information exists to distinguish it from a newer ID-less friendship) — that is the pre-PR status quo, not a regression introduced here, and fixing it properly needs formation ordering in the journal, which is out of #5624's scope.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Recover interrupted removals of local friendships
When a friendship is created through request_friend_as and accept_friend_as, it has no formed_by ID, and remove_friend produces an empty-request removal artifact. If the process crashes after store_artifact appends that artifact but before it appends the removal journal entry, this guard makes writer Directory::open ignore the durable removal and resurrect the friendship. The previous writer recovery applied the removal by pair in this case. Distinguish an already-journaled historical removal from an interrupted removal rather than skipping every ID-less friendship.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Fixed in 61797ea — thank you, the finding was correct.
Recovery now distinguishes the two cases from the journal itself. Replay (writer open and replay_read_only) records every journaled FriendRemoved entry, and the artifact scan consumes a stored artifact's journal counterpart before deciding its effect (take_journaled_removal): the producer's entry carries the pair's stored IDs verbatim, so it may hold noncanonical IDs the artifact cannot name (#3146); a receiver's entry holds the pair-bound subset; an empty artifact's entry carries the pair's stored IDs at apply time, so it is matched by pair in journal order.
An artifact WITH a journaled counterpart was already applied: the strict targeting guards stand, so a newer ID-less friendship survives it.
An artifact with NO journaled counterpart is an interrupted removal — store_artifact appends the artifact before the journal entry, so this is exactly the crash window you named. The state it targeted is the current state, so an empty artifact now also ends a friendship formed with no request ID (the request_friend_as flow). A canonical formed-by ID still cannot be ended by an empty artifact, journaled or not: that friendship's removal artifact would name the ID.
Regression tests: an_interrupted_removal_of_an_id_less_friendship_is_recovered_on_reopen (example) and the property a_durable_removal_is_recovered_after_its_journal_entry_is_lost, which generates canonical, legacy noncanonical, and ID-less formations, removes, loses the journal entry, and requires both recovery paths to keep the friendship removed and the ID voided. Laptop: cargo test --lib in pkgs/id — full suite green, including directory::tests and artifact::tests.

Add property coverage for admission and removal recovery
The new admission and recovery coverage consists entirely of example tests, but root AGENTS.md explicitly requires property tests for state machines, replication, and ID formats and says examples do not replace them. There is no property coverage of the directory friendship lifecycle; the existing property block in artifact.rs tests pagination only. Add generated canonical/noncanonical IDs and request/accept/remove/reopen sequences, with explicit invariants covering preservation of newer state and recovery of durable removals. This is particularly important for the historical-artifact combinations handled by the new helper.

Addressed in 61797ea — the doctrine point is fair; the new coverage was all examples.
Added a property_tests module in pkgs/id/src/directory.rs (proptest, the framework artifact.rs already uses), with the oracles named in the module doc:
admission_accepts_exactly_the_canonical_id_shape — oracle: artifact::is_friend_request_id. Generates canonical IDs (16 bytes as 32 lowercase hex) and noncanonical mutations (legacy r{n} strings, uppercase, 31/33 chars, non-hex digit), crafts a correctly signed envelope with each, and requires Directory::receive to accept exactly the canonical shape and to persist nothing for any other shape.
a_durable_removal_is_recovered_after_its_journal_entry_is_lost — generates canonical / legacy noncanonical / ID-less formations and requires both recovery paths (writer open, replay_read_only) to recover a removal whose journal entry was lost after its artifact was stored.
reopen_and_read_only_replay_reproduce_live_state — oracle: the live directory. Generates request/accept/remove/reopen operation sequences over two pairs (signed and local removals interleaved) and requires reopen and read-only replay to reproduce the exact live friend/pending/removed state. Scope note, stated plainly: formations in this property are canonical or ID-less — successive legacy formations are the one sequence the journal carries no ordering for (the accepted id(directory): validate friend-request IDs before persistence and preserve legacy removals #5624 trade-off recorded on this PR), so legacy behavior is pinned by the generated admission/recovery properties above plus the targeted examples rather than by this invariant.
Laptop: cargo test --lib in pkgs/id — full suite green (104 passed in the directory:: + artifact:: filter, including the three properties at 48 cases each).

Distinguish stored no-effect artifacts from interrupted removals
When receive_artifact receives an empty-request removal for a pair with no friendship or legacy pending request, it intentionally stores the artifact without a journal entry. If that pair later forms an ID-less friendship through request_friend_as and accept_friend_as, this condition mistakes the historical no-effect artifact for an interrupted removal. Consequently, replay_read_only deletes the newer friendship when opening a replica; the previous read-only recovery skipped ID-less friendships. Record whether an artifact was processed without an effect rather than interpreting every missing journal match as a crash.

Fixed in 7a3621a — thank you, the finding was correct.
Receipt now records the no-effect processing durably instead of leaving recovery to interpret a missing journal entry: when receive_artifact stores a FriendRemove artifact without an effect, it journals a FriendRemovalNoted entry (naming the pair, the artifact's requests, and the artifact's hash) alongside the artifact via the same store_artifact append. Replay collects noted hashes into noted_removal_artifacts, and both recovery passes (open, replay_read_only) skip noted artifacts entirely — a processed no-effect artifact is never re-applied against state formed after it was stored.
Regression test: a_stored_no_effect_removal_does_not_end_a_later_id_less_friendship_on_reopen — an empty removal is received for a never-befriended pair, the pair then forms an ID-less friendship, and reopen + read-only replay must leave it standing.

Match removal artifacts only to their own journal effects
If an ID-less friendship is removed through remove_friend_as, that operation writes a removal journal entry but no artifact. After the pair befriends again, an interrupted remove_friend can leave an empty-request artifact without its journal entry. The fresh evidence beyond the earlier single-removal recovery case is that this branch matches the new artifact to the unrelated, journal-only remove_friend_as entry solely by pair. Recovery therefore passes journaled = true, skips the durable removal of the current ID-less friendship, and resurrects it. Correlate the artifact with its actual journal effect instead of consuming any prior removal for the pair.

Removal artifacts are now correlated with their own journal effects by identity, not by pair. FriendRemoved journal entries record the hash of the signed artifact they were applied with (artifact field, serde-defaulted so pre-existing journals still parse; local remove_friend_as entries and pre-hash entries carry none). take_journaled_removal consumes an entry by exact artifact hash first; entries carrying a different hash are never consumed; hashless entries fall back to the request-set rules only, and an empty artifact no longer pair-matches a hashless entry — that pair-only match is exactly what let an interrupted removal consume an unrelated journal-only remove_friend_as entry. Recovery entries produced by friend_removal_effect also carry the artifact's hash, so a second recovery correlates exactly as well.
Regression test: an_interrupted_removal_is_not_defeated_by_an_earlier_local_removal_on_reopen — local removal, ID-less re-formation, then a signed removal whose journal line is lost; reopen + read-only replay must end the friendship.

Fixes #5624. Queue task 10521 (follow-up from triage task 10090).
Problem
Directory::receivepersisted any correctly signed friend-request envelope ID verbatim. A noncanonical ID (e.g.r1) was admitted, and when the friendship was later removed, the signedfriend_removeartifact naming it was refused by the #3146 receipt contract (ArtifactLog::insert→parsed()) — even on the producing server — stranding the friendship permanently.Change
Directory::receive): aFriendRequestenvelope whose ID is not the canonical shape is refused (Forbidden) before anything is persisted. The oracle is the producer invariant:Envelope::signedmints 16 bytes as 32 lowercase hex, checked via the existingartifact::is_friend_request_idpredicate (nowpub(crate)so admission and receipt share one definition and cannot drift).Directory::remove_friend): the signed artifact carries only canonical IDs, so the id(artifact): friend_removerequestsis the one known-kind body parsed() never validates — any count, any shape, any length passes, and every string lands permanently in the directory's removed_requests void guard #3146 receipt contract is not weakened and receiving servers still apply the removal (a friendship ends by pair, not by request ID). The localFriendRemovedentry carries every stored ID verbatim, so pre-validation IDs are voided inremoved_requestsexactly like canonical ones instead of making the removal unrepresentable.friend_removereceipt parser, no general bypass, and the Phase 3 (audit) of #3231 — field-by-field receipt-validation audit for pkgs/id artifacts + contract statement #3232 audit is untouched.Tests (oracle: the canonical-shape invariant)
a_friend_request_with_a_noncanonical_id_is_refused_and_never_persisted— a correctly signed envelope with IDr1is refused at receive; nothing is persisted and the genuine flow still works for the pair afterwards.a_friendship_formed_by_a_legacy_noncanonical_request_can_be_removed— legacy state seeded the way journal replay loads it (requestr1applied + accepted):remove_friendnow succeeds, the stored ID is voided verbatim, the signed artifact still parses under the strict contract and names no noncanonical ID; a pending legacy request is removable too.cargo test --lib -- directory::tests artifact::tests— 92 passed, 0 failed; the two new tests pass individually.cargo fmt --checkclean on the touched files (pre-existing fmt drift in unrelated files left alone). Local clippy is blocked by a pre-existing toolchain-cache mismatch (E0514 incrates/id-core, unrelated to this change) — CI clippy is the check to watch.🤖 Queue worker, lane code-q, task 10521.
