Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
this was found during testing of Changesets moving to @clack/prompts, where the current CLI has a grouped multiselect with search.
the current groupMultiselect does not support search/autocomplete, and autocompleteMultiselect does not support grouping - and thus this issue exists :)
Describe the solution you'd like
i'm not sure what the best solution would be since it most likely depends on the implementation details of the existing functions.
Describe alternatives you've considered
using either of them, losing out on the functionality of the other :^)
would it make sense to merge select+multiselect+groupMultiselect and autocomplete+autocompleteMultiselect and then reusing the same grouping functionality in autocomplete?
I don't think so. That's a big api surface change and they each do have their own rendering behaviour on purpose. They do share some underlying behaviours but ultimately need their own rendering.
If we unify them, we will just end up with a super prompt that has far too many options and branches.
For this particular issue, I'd investigate how difficult it is to have groups in the auto complete prompts. Not a new prompt but just making the auto complete one understand grouping
