BUG: [Residual] Master Branch Mixed Chart - First metric duplicated with multiple metrics + Group By #37921
Summary
This is a residual bug from the fixed issue (BUG: 6.0.0 Mixed Chart - Duplicate label rendering in tooltip/chart area #37055).
The initial fix resolved general duplicate labels, but the first metric is still duplicated when adding multiple metrics + 1+ Group By dimensions in the same Query.
How to Reproduce
Deploy the latest master branch of Superset
Create a Mixed Chart → Query A:
Metrics: score_one, score_two (unique aliases, no duplicates)
Group By: name (categorical dimension)
Run the query and save the chart
Observe the legend/tooltip: The first metric (e.g. score_one) appears twice (e.g. score_one, Jack and score_one, score_two, Jack)
Expected Results
All metrics/dimensions render only once without duplication.
Actual Results
First metric is duplicated in the same position; query data is correct, only frontend rendering is broken.
This duplication is happening in the frontend logic for Mixed Charts. The legend and tooltip labels are built by combining metric and group by names, and the deduplication function (dedupSeries) only appends a suffix if it detects duplicate IDs, which doesn't fully resolve cases where the first metric is repeated with group by dimensions. The relevant code is in transformProps.ts and series.ts—specifically, how display names are constructed and how deduplication is applied. Improving the uniqueness logic for series IDs when multiple metrics and group by fields are present should help fix this edge case. You can review and adjust the display name construction and deduplication logic in these files to ensure each legend/tooltip entry is unique and not duplicated. More details on the implementation can be found here and here.
@dosu This residual bug in mixed charts (first metric duplication with multiple metrics + group by) affects our usage and is an edge case not covered by the original #37055 fix.
Could someone please triage this issue (label priority/type, confirm root cause, or suggest frontend fix direction) at your earliest convenience ?
