Summary

  • The resumable upload window is 8 MiB, while the encrypted stream yields 16 MiB chunks. The unread tail was dropped, so a dump larger than about 8 MiB failed with Stream ended early. The tail now stays pending and fills the next window.
  • supportsAllDrives was sent in the JSON body. Google only honors it as a query parameter, so creating a folder or starting a resumable upload on a Shared Drive returned 404. Both POST URLs now include supportsAllDrives=true, and the flag is removed from the body.
  • Unit tests cover a 16 MiB chunk split into two 8 MiB windows and the two write URLs.

Test plan

  • cargo test --bin app helpers::tests
  • Upload an encrypted dump larger than 8 MiB into a Shared Drive folder

Made with Cursor

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Improved large Google Drive uploads by carrying data that exceeds one upload chunk into the next, helping prevent data loss during chunked transfers.
    • Updated folder creation and resumable uploads to support Google Drive shared-drive requests.
    • Uploads still report an error if the data stream ends before the expected amount is received.

Encrypted dumps arrive in 16 MiB pieces while the resumable window is 8 MiB, and the unread tail was discarded. Shared Drive writes also need supportsAllDrives on the request URL, which Google does not read from the JSON body.

Walkthrough

The Google Drive helper now uses shared-drive query parameters in file and resumable-upload URLs. The upload loop preserves stream bytes that exceed the current chunk and uses them for the next chunk. Tests cover fixed-size windows and URL query parameters.

Changes: Google Drive upload handling

Layer / File(s) Summary
Drive request URLs
src/services/storage/providers/google_drive/helpers.rs
Shared Drive URL constants add supportsAllDrives=true. Folder creation and resumable-upload initiation use these URLs instead of including the option in JSON metadata. Tests check the URL query parameters.
Upload chunk buffering
src/services/storage/providers/google_drive/helpers.rs
New helpers consume pending bytes and split input into fixed-size windows. The upload loop carries excess bytes into the next chunk and returns an error if the stream ends early. Tests check two intact 8 MiB windows from a 16 MiB buffer.

The changes have bounded regression-coverage gaps: tests do not directly verify production upload buffering or Shared Drive request URLs. Merge with owner awareness and follow-up coverage; the existing encrypted-length defect also needs correction.

Test tail retention in the production upload loop.

The test exercises collect_windows, which the upload loop does not call. A regression that discards the pending tail in the upload loop would still pass. Add a test that drives the production loop with a 16 MiB stream item and verifies both 8 MiB PUT bodies.

Test the URLs used by both write requests.

The test checks the constants, not the requests. If either request changes to a URL without supportsAllDrives=true, the test still passes and Shared Drive writes may fail. Add tests that inspect the folder-creation and resumable-upload requests.

Use the encrypted stream length for Drive uploads.

For encrypted backups, total_size is the plaintext length, but the stream also contains a header and ciphertext frames. The loop therefore cannot send the complete encrypted backup.

Pass the actual encrypted stream length as total_size, including the header and frames. Use that length in the session and content-range headers.
