Support new teradata driver natively #260

Open

Description

@takeda

I just wanted to query a teradata database during a test, and I saw that the Database Library would be useful, though when trying it out I noticed that I need teradata module.

From the documentation it looks like the package I need is https://github.com/teradata/PyTd. Unfortunately that repo has not been touched in 4 years and it has a depreciation notice pointing me to use https://github.com/Teradata/python-driver instead, but that package is called teradatasql and doesn't look like Database Library recognizes it.

What is the proper way to talk to teradata?

    Hello @takeda and thanks for submitting the issue!
    The currently supported teradata driver is indeed the deprecated one.

    I should check if the new one driver can be natively supported in the Database Library.
    Meanwhile you can try to install and use the new driver anyway - just provide the proper connection parameters, they seem to be well documented on the page you linked.

    You can get some inspiration in the connection examples, try something like this:

    Connect To Database    teradatasql
    ...    host=whomooz
    ...    user=guest
    ...    password=please
