Apple’s new Reference Image in HEIC/HEIF

Apple have announced that their new photos can/will contain a digital negative, called a Reference Image. If an image is modified, it will be tagged and the reference image will always be available in its unedited form.

I don’t think this will cause any issue viewing heic files, but are you planning any visibility of the flags associated with these updates, for example, there is now an “edited with AI” flag as well as “modified from reference image” (not the actual flag names).

An external library is used to read heic/heif images. We will have to wait to see what they will do inside that library.
